paul hi
seem to have got the 48 pitch to mesh however not perfect
maybe u ca take a look at it
running a 66 spur with 34 pinion what do u think
maybe should also run rubber tyres instead of foam
let me know
thanks

with the 66/4 combo and 64mm(rubber tyres) tyres, you will be running a rollout of about 42.5mm. that should work well. you can still go up 2-3teeth on the pinion if you need more speed. but at the same time monitor the motor temps, 'cos it's going to run very hot.

setup is critical with rubber tyres as they can be very temperamantal. foams offer more grip in our type of racing and they are easier to set the car up with, you just have to check the wear patterns and rates and obviously alter your gearing as the tyres wear down.

maybe start with rubbers and see how it goes from there for you??

Thats correct minnesh ,if you go up it means change to a larger pinion gear.
a change of a tooth or two can make a dramatic change to the way the car performs.Also remember gearing for speed doesnt mean the car is going to be fast around the track.its a balance between decent speed down main straight and good acceleration between corners.Biggest gain can be gotten in the tighter sections of tracks if you geared for punch/acceleration ,added bonus is that motors are not as strained and temps are a bit cooller.
just remember to keep an eye on how hot the motor gets as paul suggested.

Here in South Africa, we race foams predominantly. almost all the tracks are outdoor asphalt.

Has anyone tried rubbers, i used to run maximum 28s if it wasnt hot then you might run 24s.

If you use Sorex inserts medium Cs (IE a low profile insert, you want an airgap in the tire). I now drill two 2mm holes in the rim but thats probably not necessary in 540.

Take Off 27s used to be pretty popular and the new next generation sorexs are probably a little better.
