I've even heard some of the totaly bone headed crap that Doug has had calls on and all I can say is the guy has a lot of patience. Plus the fact that RCSP has been around for I think 4 years I would doubt there are many tracks that have been using RCSP for "many many years". I know this as I'm one of his longest sanding users.
Sorry, it was the case. I believe they have used it since it was beta software and there were some issues regarding that and promises made. I dont want to get into the details as I wasnt part of all of it. I can just say there was a CS issue and while the track desired to stay with RCSP they were unable to. Im not say at all that it is bad software. Ive heard otherwise and have witnessed that things were easier with RCSP.

I wanted to give RCSP a try, but after many unsuccessful times of trying to contact him.....I gave up.

This is getting a little heated. I guess I thought it would be as its like asking which TC is better X-ray or Corally

The reason for the question is that we are a member's club. We rent the 10000 square foot facility, we bought the ozite, we made the boards....on and on.

So, when it comes to expendiatures, we need good reason to spend our cash, and to be frank we don't have a huge reason to go away from our current software (programmed by one of our members many years ago (6-7 years ago)). The major reason is personal transponder support, lap time calling, and automated race day scheduler.

Even we don't have a **need** for software, we want something new for the reasons stated above. I've been trying to convince myself that RCSP is the standard just like CRC's Ozite is for Carpet - and I think I've done that (convince myself), but I cannot ignore the price point difference and the fact that the one of the reasons we are considering new software is not available with RCSP at the moment. Alycat is so much cheaper that its worth the gamble to try for a year.

In the end its what our members choose is best - I'll recommend RCSP and Alycat, but for us I think Alycat is where its at.

Thanks for the input everyone.

I didn't know this thread existed until somebody told me! I don't have a touring car, only off-road stuff, so I don't visit this forum much.

or8ital, please tell me which track you are talking about, because to my knowledge I have never lost a customer to any of my competitors. I had a track in Chicago (Leisure Hours) swearing at me a year ago telling me his PC kept rebooting and yada yada. I drove down there and checked everything out and it looked fine to me. The next night he called and said the PC rebooted again and he was really pi**ed. A few days later he called again, turns out his serial cord had a short in it. He said "SORRY!".

I have never had a customer besides Leisure Hours voice any complaints with my software. This is my full time job, and I have a home office with 2 phone numbers and am available for tech support for 15+ hours a day 7 days a week.

I don't think Autoscore has forums anymore. http://bnbautoscore.com/
His latest version is from 3/22/2005 (From his site, News area).

Thanks to many of you for the nice comments.

or8ital, if you are talking about somebody from Ohio, I won't even sell him a copy of the software. I told him to buy JLAP.

Ed, I have never had a voice mail from you, and I have never seen an email from you (I do get about 150 emails a day for CIALIS, but that is a new topic for sure ).

My home office is 262-827-4939, and my cell # is 262-442-3041, both of these numbers are on the website. Or if you like send me a PM and I can call you.

60 gig HD
512 meg ram
ATI video card
Ports
1x Parallel
1x Serial
1x USB

Not much installed in this, its main use now is for running races.

As for ports, I use the Parallel for the printer, Serial for Alpha signs (beta brite), USB for a mouse, and the decoder off the ethernet port.

So if my system will handle the task LMK. Also, is RC Scoring pro compatable with the AMBrc3 decoder? That seems to be the problem right now. I had no problems with an "rc" decoder, but for the last 9 months, I've been plagued with software issues.

Thanks

I didn't even know I had new messages, I guess this new upgrade don't tell me like it used to!

I don't work with the CAT5 connection yet because the AMB documentation is so bad. For now you would need to use the serial port. You could use a USB to Serial for the BetaBrite.

Here is a trial version:

I can extend the expiration date, let me know. I think your hardware will be OK.

Doug

I believe this was after the third phone call and 1st email. Thanks for the trial version but I couldn't get it to load on three different computers.

I tried to get a hold of you for about two weeks. After that I was spent and gave up.

or8ital -

I know the situation you are talking about all too well and your "facts" are far from the truth.

The computer you are speaking of was purchased from me. It had a demo version of the software on it and the LHS owner was well aware that it would expire and he would have to purchase it at that time. Instead of purchasing it, he used it for several years, setting the date back (a feature that you can't get away with now ). When the computer finally needed replacing, they tried to get a free copy from Doug. They thought they were "owed" a freebie because of the original beta testing I did with Doug in the early days.

Just because the LHS had involvement with the track where it was used and tested, doesn't mean that they get free software for life. It was used as ME as the race director and on MY hardware. When they wanted "their" copy they tried to get me in the middle of it and I refused to do so. This will surely cause (more) conflict between the LHS owner and myself but I cannot stand by and let Doug's good name and reputation get slammed for no reason.

RCSP is simply the premier scoring software, period.

I have run races with as many as 275 entries and it never misses a beat. On the RARE occasion that I need assistance, Doug ALWAYS answers his phone. I have called him in the middle of the night, very early on a Sunday morning and even when he was in Vegas scoring a race!

RCSP isn't the cheapest but it surely is the best. When I go to other tracks to RD, I insist on using RCSP even if they don't already have it.

If anyone has questions I will be happy to answer them. You can reach me at 937.672.9222.

Well the only fact I stated was they wanted to upgrade RCSP and had a customer service issue. I highly doubt your setting the date back claim as all the printouts had the correct date on them and Im sure like most programs the date was taken from the computer. Why would you "sell" someone something that you didnt have rights to use? Wouldnt you erase it first?

Again, I said the software was great and that was the only issue I heard. Im not slamming anyone and as far as I know the LHS doesnt know of what I write on here. If Doug wants to not work with someone based on a third parties claims then I guess he is well within his rights to do that.

Mr Kingston, feel free to PM if you want to dicuss further. I dont wanna take away from the great info on this thread with what appears to be a misunderstanding. No need to cause hard feelings for anyone.

The facts speak for themselves. Ask Randy if he was setting the date back. He told me he was. And yes, it did work on that version of the demo. Doug was aware at the time that I sold the computer with the demo on it. He purchased the hardware and received a demo, just like if Doug would have sent it to him.

You WERE slamming Doug by passing on the lie that it was a customer service issue. It was not.

I will not PM you about this. YOU brought this up in public and now want to hide in PM's because some of the REAL facts come out? I have nothing to hide.

ok guys I am a member at the club this thread was created by and I am really hoping we go with rcsp even tho it is more costly than allycat. I have been to some of the major events that rcsp has been used at and thats why I recommended it to our club. From what I've witnessed it has worked flawlessly. I loved the bar code scanner at the IIC, got to see all of my practice laps everytime practice mode was on. This helped me know if I was getting faster everyday and if set-up changes were working

I have also been to some major events with J-lap and it has never gone through an entire weekend without some MAJOR issues.

Please Vince go with rcsp! I will donate more

Youre trying to create drama where none exists and now just making things up. Ive seen you do it before. Ive aged past high school and Im not going to engage in this non-sense. Ive heard the stories from a lot of different people that know both of you really well. Let it all go.

I will say it again, RCSP = great software. I was only aware of -one- CS issue. Even at one that isnt bad and it sounds as though that one is a misunderstanding that is complicated by a third party being involved.

Sullivan,

This isn't the first time I have had to smack your hands for running your mouth over something you know little about. If I were you I would want to move on as well.

You are a funny guy.

My track is looking at upgrading our current scoring system. Personally I want to go the RCSP way but there is another option the track owners are looking at. Is there a new version of Autoscore that has just been released or is going to be? In my area we have an off road series (GLORCS) and the GLORCS people want to have all the tracks in the series run the same software... That software is Autoscore (a more advanced version of what we currently have) does anybody know anything about this system?

Either way I am going to push to get the RCSP system... All of the races I have attended that have used this program have gone flawlessly and I've heard nothing but good things about the tech support Doug offers.

Acording to the B&B Autoscore website the latest version is 3/05, more than 2 years old. If you buy all the bells and whistles, 20 car, Database, Re-sort, Qual Points, you're into it for $945. For the same cost you can get a software thats always being improved, has all these bells and whistles, plus the point series manager, and then some for the same money. Not to mention prompt, profesional tech support, you can't get that from Autoscore. The best thing I like about RCSP is that in 3 years of running races with it I think I've crashed it 3 times and never in the middle of a race, I know I can't say that about Autoscore. Don't waste your money if your looking at putting down that much for timming software, all the rest are just pretenders RCSP is the only way to go.
