So let me get this right, you go 5 cell and with the large track, by any standard if they are 1/8th scale tracks duh they are LARGE, you have problems makig the run times with the modified motors. Then, wouldnt it be logical to stick with the 6 cell rule and impose a motor limit?? OR, gear properly?? I mean, you run electric on larger tracks and obviously gear to the moon, it stands to reason, that the end result are burnt speedos and locked motors...or, run on a "normal sized" track

We had a 12 turn limit up until last year when motors were let free. But the combo of low turn brushed and high power IB cells together with large (gigantic by US standard) euro tracks proved to be leathal to touring cars. The motors simply blew up because of the revs or the speedos melted. If nothing was done the touring class would be dead within a year. This is why we went to 5 cells with no complaints from any racers. When we had a turn limit it was the most expensive stock class ever run so it was no option to limit winds again.
I ran 12turn as well untill last year and ok, touring was a bit slower but it worked (unless you have a team corally driver there who changes brushes every battery...). So I think that was the best thing to do.
They shouldve just left it to 6 cells and limit the motor again. But hey, I dont have a voice in the racing federation and they still dont see that now batteries are again the limiting factor. They put tremendous stress on the batteries atm, I know guys who are dumping with 4200! ffs, bring back the meaning of throttle controll by making the controll battery a GP 3300
Then we'll see who finishes, and I can tell you 1 thing: you wont see any blown speedo's or motors (or it should be a drivers error)

im just wondering why the 5 cell therory against 6 cell does everyone no more or less cells does not change runtime just voltage. if u cant make time with 5 cells u will not make time with 6 either. its in your cars if ur car works properly an ur settings are setup to have a smooth car that is just as fast or faster thru the infield then u will make time all u need is a well handling car. if all u guys are worried about ripping your 3.5 down the strait faster than buy lipos an stop with all the 5 cell vs. 6 cell debate more than 50% of the people on rctech have cars that probally handle like turds so they think ok lets strap in more horsepower.

people want the same top speed with 5 cells so they start gearing a lot taller or taking a hotter motor to compensate.
Gearing taller means that the motor will draw max. amps for a longer period of time. hotter motor, duh, not gonna explain that.
So eventually the battery stays the same but needs to work a lot harder because of the gearing. Same in 4 cell mod 1/12...
But idd, no need to discuss the 5 cell <-> 6 cells in here, here its about the vortex motor, which, btw, I like a lot!!
