and for my oppinion on the best shocks,2 years ago i would say Tamiya.now that all the latest shocks are based off of the tamya shocks,they all kick ass.it seems that all the companies have stepped up there game with the latest shocks.tamiya figured it out and the rest seem to be refined versions of the tamiya.cant go wrong with any of them anymore.this is a nice problem to have.

Well it didn't help that magazines were (at that time) still the only way to find out about new cars. And the "First Look" of the first Xray wasn't very well identified by Car Action. So, given the look of the car, most people assumed it was a new Corally.

I have XRay and I'm happy with them. However I hear the Tamiya's TRF shocks are the way to go. Everybody else is just mentioning what car they drive or they are sponsered by the company.

That is why you are getting biased opinions.

Tamiya shocks without a doubt. They have been using this design for almost 10 years. All the other companies shocks are just a copy of the Tamiya shock.

TRF's although recently other manufacturers have been coming close to matching them in some areas, but best overall are definitely TRF's

I use the Serpent shocks: 903164

I'm very happy with them. Bleeding is easy and predictable. They fit perfect on my Xray T2'007.

for those who use the shock, does the "hard" version (see link) have threaded body, or is it only the traditional "TRF" set?

They both have the threaded body, I have a set of them and they are very very nice shocks

The body on the "hard" is hard coated (anodized: note dark grey colour) to resist wear. The other is flourine coated for smoothness/less friction.

Xray seems to be the only company who has stuck with it though.

Those shocks on the C4 were made by Serpent, and they're still available today. I just bought a set to complete my new Corally C4. I managed to locate an unbuilt new in the box C4 kit, but some parts had been taken out over the years. I just finished the build today, and we'll see next weekend if one of the great cars from 2000 can hang with the latest generation of touring cars...
