Everyone who found out how much it would cost to get involved, walked away shaking their heads. In talking to the owners of the track I race at have said the same thing.
What this hobby needs is a low cost competative race package. I know Trinity tried to start the SPEC class but that seems to have died.
Xray offered a budget version of their car, but it is still too much for some people.
Most Tracks have started a "Sportsman" class which allow newbie's to run anything they have (within reason), in hopes of growing the hobby.
I hope someone finds the answer so this hobby grows, since it is something I love.
As far as people getting "lite up" at races, well being a parent myself, it is our responsibility to teach our childern that there are all sorts of people in this world and that some people just don't act right at times. Parents need to ask the people that run the events who the drivers are that they can go and talk to in hopes of getting some information.
I have been to several races that involved PRO's. As a parent I would not hesitate to go to Barry and ask him questions with my child. Barry is a great guy.
I have been to races that some racers had cases of beer in their pits. Personally, I didn't care, but if a parent did care they should take their childern away from the area. If the drivers are getting out of hand, they need to go the race director.
The bottom line...... Parents are the only ones that need to "censor" what their own childern are influenced by.
What is offensive to one can be totally acceptable to another

Bolink Legends
Trinity Speed Spec 10
Trinity T-Spec
Assocaited's TC3 Racer
many more...
They all failed to sell in any reasonable quantity and they were all discontinued.
Why? Because the same people that complain about how expensive a car is will not buy simple low cost cars because they just arent cool enough.
If you want low cost racing Tamiya is somewhat sucessful with cerntain TCS classes. TCS Sedan is really expensive but the M-chassis and 2wd Direct Drive classes are very inexpensive to run.

WTF? I could care less if the dude sits at home eating Cheeto's and watching porn while smoking a fatty. But if the dude is on the "clock" and doing it, thats some serious BS and he oughta be called out.

Also, a lot of guys in TCS sedan are not running the Ta05. They are running 415MSX's. Even with the Ta05 there are a lot of TCS legal hop ups that a lot of guys install bring its cost up.

You're talking a LOT less if you order from Japan and a fully hopped-up TA05 is still under $300 and completely TCS legal and the new TA05R looks like it's only going to be about $250 or so and it's rockin and ready. The TRF415 is only legal in TCS GT1 so there is still GT2 and GT3. I'm not knocking any other companies for doing what they do...it's just Tamiya makes affordable, competitive chassis that are constantly overlooked.

OK, Barry already told you to drop it because of the children that might be reading this post, but you decided to ramble on and on about it so you're actually opening these childrens eyes to something that they were probably totally unaware of. i don't think that was an adult thing to do because now when they are at a race they are going to look for this type of behavior. you are actually behaving like those guys you talk soo much about and you're glorifying them because you have the heart to tell them to their face. if someone is doing that and my children see them you bet i'll tell them to stop or i'll call the cops, but if i or my children did not actually see them doing it we cannot assume that they are doing it. so thanks for probably deterring newcomers to this hobby because of your cowardness.
CHILDREN AND PARENTS PLEASE DO NOT ASSUME OTHERS AT THE TRACK ARE DOING THESE THINGS JUST BECAUSE OTHERS SAY SO. IF YOU SEE IT FOR YOURSELF SAY SOMETHING TO THEM RIGHT THERE BECAUSE THESE COMPANIES ARE NOT RESPONSABLE FOR THIS TYPE OF BEHAVIOR.

SOme TCS classes might be cheaper than others but even back in 1996 I ran a TA03 David Jun edition and they where not cheap and now guys do run the TA05 but many run the 415 and I see nothing cheap about these cars. Great cars but just not cheap.
When I raced some of those so called spec classes and some of the cars Adrian mentioned I spent more money than I do now with my top of the line touring car. All the guys I raced spec with also spent tons of money trying to go faster. More tires and even more motors and batteries trying to find one good one.

By any chance does this latest topic turn have something to do with the "Magic" smoke I always hear about being let out from a motor?
PLAY ON!!!!
