Sounds like we had the same first car.
Circa 1977 it was the Tamiya #58007 Lamborghini Countach LP500S CS
I still have it and the box it came in. It has a MRC servo, stick radio and receiver. The speed contoller is a mechanical type and I have one hump back 5 cell battery in a hard plastic case I saved. The tires with the gray insert have dried out and shrunk though. Brings back memories. I think I'll go home and look at it tonight

Tamiya Super Champ in 1984. Was only 11 years old with an attention span of a 4 year old hence the kit was never built properly but was still good fun.
Tamiya Frog 1990 bought second hand ready to run and drove it twice.

2005HBX TL-01 copy off Ebay

2005 Schumacher Mission S1
2005 Schumacher Mi2 Carbon
2006 Tamiya TRF415MSX went back to my roots !!

This thread is making me go back to some fun memories of the Yokomo Dog Fighter, Delta Super Phazer and Delta Eagle that I bought within the first year of being totally hooked on RC !

I don’t count those cheap pre-built radio shack/HK cars that I had as my first.

My first real un-assembled RC was the Futaba FX10 buggy. Had that thing for days, broke and JB welded those shock towers about a million times.
Then:
- RC10 Gold pan buggy
- RC10L (1/10 electric scale pan car), I ended up converting this to gas when they made the conversion kits for it.
- RC10T (when it first came out). This was when I started going to the track on a regular basis and I could not get that first gen RC10 buggy handle for anything haha.

Default 1st R/C Car...

My first R/C cars as a kid, I can't recall, too long ago....

The first ones I remember were Radio Shack Lightnings, pretty fast toys, went about 17 mph. I bought the first one for $99.99, then 3 more each for about $39.99 on closeout. Kids and I had a blast on weekends at the park. Servos died off, or if not that, the diffs.

First REAL hobby car was AE T3 stadium truck RTR in 2000-2001. This year I lowered it and my son and I still race it on-road.

Bought another used but upgraded T3 Factory Team. Along the way I picked up an HPI micro, then another one for my son. Got busy with other things for a few years.

Finally this year I got back into racing, got a 4.5 brushless system. These are ballistically silly fast. Put it in the T3 and it throws gravel 30 feet and then makes about 45 mph! I raced a few times offroad and made the A-mains, even a TQ once. And got as much as 14 minutes offroad run time on 3800's. I enjoyed that so much I picked up a used TC3 which I've been running to death since this spring. I'd like a Corally or something like that, maybe next year if some money shows up.

LOL that's the main reason I started this thread. My wife asked me one night at dinner, "So, what was your first RC Car??" All those memories started flooding back!! I remember the first time I broke the a-arm on the car, I didn't want my dad to know, because it cost so much to begin with. Saved my allowance money, put the car in my back pack, rode on my bike (rode 12 miles) to the LHS to purchase the part, and also to install it before he noticed it was broken. Ahhhh those are the memories I wouldn't trade for anything!!

I think my wife bought me a Tamiya Fox still un-assembled on Ebay for me for Christmas!!!!! Can't wait. She used my paypal acct!! I know it's my money, but it's the thought that counts!!
