My first Hobby Grade R/C was a gold tub aluminum RC10 buggy.. Sure I had a few radio shack cars before that.. But that doesn't count.. The first thing I raced however was a RC10L with woods brother oval Chassis. That was pretty cool.. I was TERRIBLE in those days! :weird:

My big sister got me a Tamiya Grasshopper when we were on vacation in Singapore. Although I'd seen the Tamiya R/Cs in catalogs, I didn't know how much they cost or where to get one from... so to a kid in the 80's who spent an unhealthy amount of time drooling over Nikko buggies in toy stores and gluing his finger to scale models, "hobby grade" RCs were the stuff of legends.

I was so proud after I built it with a screw driver and a hair dryer (to heatshrink the wires after you twist them together).

There's probably a few I've forgotten, but those are the important ones. I have none left but the gen XL's, X10, and the 18T.

My first r/c car was a Tamiya Frog with the Subaru Brat body. I got that, a Tamiya battery pack, a 15 minute windup battery charger (which I still have) and a Futaba AM radio with two servos for just under $170 back in 1987. I had a blast with it until it got stolen from me several years later. I eventually replaced it with a Tamiya Grasshopper II (which I still have) and moved on with my r/c collection from there.

My first r/c car was the tamiya Hornet.

I still have all old cars from when I was young.. must be a horder.

Tyco Jet Hopper (Turbo Hopper) - Still got it and it goes.. allot better now then it did back then with the newer batteries.

Got a Hotshot the following year and it was way to fast for my young hands.. Still got the Hotshot but its broken and I have not bothered fixing it from when I had an accident about 20 years ago with a gutter (was too hard back then). I probably should get it out and fix it up..

My first RC car was the Tamiya Boomerang (in 1989).

I had a Gurney Eagle or a Lotus, can't remember which it was, but same thing, a teather car. This one was made by Cox and was a single seater blue plastic car. The magnesium 5 spoke wheels with the hard rubber tires looked so cool, and the detail in the rest of the car was very realistic. We used to fire it up without the line and send it down the block, pick it up a couple of blocks away. Can't believe the bus never ran over it. lol

Yeah, you're right -- it was Cox, not Fox. I must be getting senile. You're also right about the detail -- The Indy Roadster had Halibrand wheels and narrow Firestone tires; the driver figure had goggles and a face kerchief; the stickers were all authentic. Wish I still had it. Yours lasted longer than mine. :D
