What was your 1st RC Car??
Thought I start a post reminising the past.
My 1st RC Car was a Tamiya Fox, got in it 1985, when I was 13, had to beg my dad for it :p :p . All my friends had either the Hornet, Frog, or the Grasshopper so I was the COOL KID with the FOX  !!! Since the car was so expensive (compared to toys), he wouldn't met me put it together :flaming: , and had the shop owner put it together for me. Raced it and even converted it to a "Red Fox" . I remember the manual speed controller got so HOT that it melted the cover that goes on that car. Yup good times ;) !!! Would've still have that car if my mom didn't sell it at a garage sale when I was in college :flaming: :flaming: . So what was your first car?? Texagi95 |
A Tamiya Hotshot was my first, sold it after 6 months and got an Avante which i still have :D
Tamiya Grasshopper :tire:
Tyco Turbo Hopper!
and lots of other misc radioshack ones. first real one was a tamiya hornet. I broke so many of the chassis, |
The Frog and all of it's axle stripping glory
I had a Marui Galaxy as my first R/C vehicle. The stock mechanical speed control lasted maybe 5 seconds before frying. Next was a Kyosho Scorpion buggy.
My first 'serious' R/C car was a Kyosho Turbo Optima Mid ;)
1986/1987 - Tamiya Falcon...It was the latest and greatest that tamiya put out :) Too bad the chassis was fragile right behind the front bulkhead :(
MRP GP100, 1/12th RTR car from MRP, brown box transmitter. Built by the Welsh boys and Gary Kyes out of Washington. Car was a pan car with the chassis made out of some kind of plastic, no suspension, no diff. Made those boys with the 12E cars cry.
My first was a Superchamp, then the rc 10 came out so I put every MIP part available on it and still couldn't keep up with the rc10's so, had to get one. I still have the Superchamp and it is still operational with the ole brown box.

I started rc car racing with a Tamiya 12th scale Newman Porsche 956
If I can find one in a reasonable state I would buy it. |

+1 on the Falcon. The LHS would have a tub sitting on the counter every other time I walked in the door and they never were out of stock. :weird: |
my very first car was from a company called royal they made rc motor cycles. it was the royal crusher monster truck electric with four wheel steering. i got that in 1988 when i was 2 from my dad for x-mas. he used to race alot at the time and wanted to get me started young.

Tamiya Blackfoot that I upgraded with ball bearings, Thorp gears and ball diff, a 13x1 Revtech, and a Novak T4. Simple times...
Serpent Impulse
Associated 1/8th. scale pan car, built in 1977. Solid axle, and a spring steel front end. Still have it, and it still runs.
1984 Cox Scorpion 1/10 buggy.
1986
Tamiya Grasshopper with a "Sanwa" dual stick radio. 15 minute timer charger and the old faithful "white brick" battery.
I then upgraded it with bearings, changed the speedo with a Tamiya 'Road Wizard" rheostat style speedo and installed a Tamiya Black Motor "Sprint". At the time the speed of that car seemed awesome...LOL I still have the old Grasshopper and Road Wizard for sentimental reasons. Both are still in good working order. Tamiya TL-01

Started off with the Nikko Lobo 2 and Lobo 3 as a kid (2 was much better), then when I was 12 bought a used Tamiya Falcon all ready to run, the most fun I've had.. went through so many spiked tires on that one. Had a problem with the rear dogbones popping, though..
My first 'real' RC car was a TC4. I started this time last year, raced throughout the winter, and spring. Got a T2, spend a TON of money, sold some stuff, quit for the summer and fall, looking to get back into it now.
