I have completed building the car and followed all prewarnings from xray. Even took it apart once to insure the bearings had plenty of oil. 3 things I have noticed.

1. One way installed, put a dab of grease on the pins that hold the wheel hubs. The right front has a clicking noise, but I cannot figure what is causing it.

2. I noticed play / movement with the servo saver shaft in the chassis.

3. During the re-oiling of the wheel bearings, there was already a noticeable amount of black residue/wear on the bearings. I had only ran the car for a minute or 2 during initial setup on the bench. Really not long enough to heat anything up.

Have another question. Does Xray make a servo horn for Hitec servos that will work on the T2 007?

I raced a fresh T2 007 at the aus nationals not long ago, and did fairly well, however five or six bearings just blew up, ceased, melted, whatever. mainly in the hubs, but also on the layshaft.

I pre-oiled them, ran them for the two practice days, but didnt check/clean/oil them for the qualifying and mains.. I SHOULD HAVE. It caused me no end of problems. I ended up putting most of my old T2 bearings in, and throwing most of the 007 bearings in the bin.

I then raced a meet on carpet, during my run, the car started to feel slow, I could hear a small squeeling sound as I was driving, I had my pit man check it... (i pulled over). the front right hub bearings has ceased up, teh drive shaft was stil turnng inside the bearing, heating up, it melted the inside of the hub, melted the bearing covers, and MELTED THE WHEEL. The actual hex in the wheel was melted. my pit man burnt his hand when he went to take the wheel off (just from touching the rim!)

So incase you haven't read the warning from XRAY regarding the bearings... READ IT.

To be honest, I dont want to have to pull and rebuild all my car's bearings after every single race meet, esp for a regular club meet, I like to run say 5 or so meets (of 5 races) before having to rebuild my bearings.... looks like I'll be using 'lesser precision' bearings from now on...

I know the T2 is a professional kit, but it's so professional that I need to do a bearing rebuild every time I take the car out to race? damn....

anyway, I'm sure there are plenty of 'these bearings suck' rants already... I'll quit my sulking now! heh

WOW,

I read the instructions, Lubed the bearings well.
Ran the car probably 15-20 times now and the bearings are still smooth.
Not to say I don't hit stuff, cause the Lord knows I do. But if you hit stuff allot especially the rims they really don't transfer damage but to the weakest part in the drive train. (i.e. the bearings). I had this same issue with my RDX when I would hit dots or barriers, the bearing would get smooshed and cause all sorts of issues from bend CVDs to broken knuckles.

Best bet is to make sure your bearings are clean and lubed after each race weekend. I know its a pain but a .99cent part is easy to replace and saves you much more expensive parts from breakage.
Hope that helps,

I also lubed the bearings well while building the car and after two 2-day race weekends on carpet the bearings are still very smooth and free.

I had 7 bearings seize up on my '007. It didn't bother me much though. Just thought it was rather odd. I just replaced them with something else. I had 6 wheel bearings and one layshaft bearing go out. It's a good excuse for when you don't do good. Just tell' em a bearing locked up.

Anyways I haven't had any more problems the last couple times.

You might all know this already, but bearing kits for the car are pretty cheap.

ABEC 3: $6.74
ABEC 5: $8.76

Are the "higher precision" bearings that are causing trouble ABEC 5 instead of 3? Was that the change, or is it something else?

I'm not reading through all 40 pages, but after reading a few I came up with this. The '007 is better suited for carpet racing, and fixed what the T2 lacked in that department. Also, by just reading this last page, is something wrong with the bearings XRAY supplies? I never had to lube my bearings that often before.

I'm just getting back into the R/C swing of things (see my thread). I had a T2 when they first came out, now that I sold it, and I'm thinking of the '007.

It seems a lot of people are using the Futaba S9550 servo for the T2 and T2 '007, what servo mounting whole does it use? The narrower or wider? Hope that makes sense.

Has anyone else noticed these items? Recommendations?

Keep in mind the '007 comes in 2 versions, rubber and foam tire. So your observation is only half true.

Nothing wrong in terms of a manufacturing defect. XRay is saying that these bearings have tighter tolerances and so they need to be lubed sufficiently until they are broken in.
