What is the advantage of running a smaller spur?

118 vs 102 - what if the Fdr is the the same? More torque? Less torque? Less heat on the motor? Bigger spur better for brushless?

More gearing options, some drivers can feel the difference of the motor being mounted 2-3mm forward or back. A 102 might not mesh with smaller pinions for higher FDR's, as a 118 won't fit for lower FDR's. A 118 was good for rubber tire for me, I only needed less for foam.

Its actually better to run the biggest spur and pinion you can to get the gearing you need. The bigger the gears, the less friction between them and the more power and speed you get.

As for the weight balance thing... you can move lead around for that

So whats the hot ticket battery everyone is using in their Type-R this season?

I have been running trackpower 4900s for a little over a year now and although they have been great I would assume something better has come out by now.

Trakpower has upgraded their 4900 to 25c, 30c acceleration and 50c burst since then. They currently have the best Enerland cells.

Losi has a 4400 that is 30c, but is also a Chinese cell.. Don't know how much the numbers get "fudged" in translation.

Reedy has a 35c but it does not fit.

If what you have is doing the job then stick with it. There is very little difference in ontrack performance among the good packs. Don't jump on the "C rating" bandwagon expecting lower lap times as there is nothing in it.

Larry won the Reedy race with it last year and the car rocks on carpet. If anything the car was ahead of it's time when introduced and is still as fast as anything on the market. Don't get fooled by the "new car every year" hype that some companies have.

trust me i am not into the hype of new cars every season but i dont wanna be at a disadvantage, i do know of people still dominating with the "old HPI Pro-4" but i dont want to have to be at a disadvantage with a new kit

I would recommend the Thunder Power 5000 40c

+1 no need to update something that works better then most car......

don't forget this car won 3 classes last year at birds and tq'ed 2 of them. TQ'ed 13.5 foam at birds this year. I think there were more of these in 17.5 foam A then any other car too.
