Ballasts

I used the cubes and made shells.

Very nice...and smart to keep them in place!

Thats a great idea for those weights! If this game is about getting the CG as low as possible EA's weight is probably half the height if not less.

archivist 09-02-2025 07:07 PM

Yea, the EAM weights look great. I didn't know about them, otherwise, things might be different today.

I wanted to be able to place weights precisely where I wanted them. Low CG is definitely a part of the game and every little bit counts, so it's a tradeoff as usual. The cubes I'm using are also denser than the EAM by about 2.5g/cm^3. I can apply more weight closer to the cars CG. Right now, the blocks I use are a little under 6mm, but I have plans to get them a lower.

If anyone is interested, I had some of the caster plates in the same shape as the print file above laser cut in 1/8" 7075 aluminum. Here is one raw (burrs and surface discoloration) and one sanded with 220>400, the edges slightly chamfered, and holes reamed. $2 a plate raw, $3 a plate cleaned up, $5 shipping for 1-4. I only have 12 total extras left.

Quick question guys , what gearing do u guys use for mod ? Pinion and spur !

If you want to run 64p, 94/24. You want to set the spur as high as possible. You don't want the spur to be flushed with the bottom of the chassis, exposing the spur to debris and end up stripping the spur.

I had a slightly improved version made for the european market :) Same rates in € if anyone's interested.

Lasercut from 1mm stainless, that way they are faster to install because you can simply slide them in after loosening a screw.
Also there was a collision with the old hudy setup system I'm using, hence the cutout in the middle.

Team, I have a situation where I’m getting rubber from the belt caked up in my diff gear teeth.

Is this normal wear or is it indicative of some other issue? (Belt tension maybe?)

Are you sure the rubber is from the belt, and not tyre dust?

My first suspicion would also be, that it's not the belt that disintegrates on its own. Never seen a bad belt out of the box.
Like Gigaplex mentioned, it is almost every time tire rubber from the track that gets picked up. It gets way worse when 1:8 IC with foam tires or 1:8 GT run on the same track.
Theses classes tend to leave a lot of tire particles on the track in my experience.

A trick that should prevent the tire pickup accumulating in the pulleys is to wet the pulleys with a little bit of silicon oil (Damper/Diff oil). That way the rubber won't stick to the pulleys.
Make sure your pulleys are clean and remove any debris that is stuck in it with a small flathead screwdriver or pick. Even small amount of pickup can cause the teeth of the belt not to engage properly and cause skipping which decreases belt & pulley life extremely.

Thanks. You’ve given me some things to look at.

How are you setting the uptravel to get 14.6. I've tried it using the Ronald Volker way. The arms are too high and the shocks are too compressed. Maybe I'm doing it wrong. Can someone please explain. I've attached pics to reference.
