Team Associated TC5
I just got a TC5 and am wanting to race the local 17.5 class.
I've only ran the car once and it was really loose in the rear end. A guy that was at the track had noticed that my car was really loose on the rear and told me I need to tighten down the front diff as it was loose. I'm about 60% sure it has a slipper spool in the front. Is this the best option for asphalt racing? Or should I look into a solid front end?

Also, how are most people holding the battery in? With just the top strap anytime I slap a board the battery falls out. The shop had these little plastic pieces that screw in but they don't really work for my batteries. I just got a new dremel so I figured I could make something happen. Or would it be better to just maybe throw some velcro on the bottom of the top strap and the top of my battery, that way the strap velcros to the battery as well as holding the battery tight against the chassis?
I think the slipper spool is the best solution for asphalt.
For the battery I used Lipos with little bumps to fit in the battery slots. For flat batteries I made some steel plates with the form of the slots and glued them underneath. This gives the battery some extra support in case of a crash. The tape the does the rest.
Or you use some composite material and do custom made lipo braces...

Battery holder
To resolve the issue of your battery falling out I'd recommend getting an Exotek chassis with the steel battery holders. I had a TC5 with and one without the Exotek chassis and I never had issues with the battery sliding out with the Exotek. The TC5 without on the other hand had a few races cut short because the battery decided to go it's own way after an impact. You could also use a velcro strap with that chassis. Or there's the option of trading up to a TC6.

Home Depot had small sheets of lexan for $4.50 and I'm basically going to make something that looks like one that has been mentioned in this thread a ways back. It's only .093 thick but I think it will be enough to keep the battery from falling out or jamming into the belts.

what is a good start for gearing?
I'm setting up my sons tc5 we just picked up used, with a 21.5 spec motor and using a XP SC450-BL esc borrowed from his T4.1 RTR. I added a 25t pinion and used 86t spur the car came with and the car seems extremely slow. I do not want to over gear the car, I want to make it fast enough for him to enjoy. Could someone give me a decent starting point.
We are both new to our tc5's so any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for the explination and what final gear ratio to shoot for.
We did not get the manual with his tc5, I will have to get it from online

It is easy enough to figure without the manual but it is a good idea to print one up anyway. These cars aren't super complicated but if you got them used it is helpful to know how they should go together if the previous owner botched the build. Good luck.

Where are you all buying your 64p spur gears from? Which ones fit?
Also, where can I get a 90t 48p spur?
Thank you
