If you’re going to go the aluminium C Hub route, I’d go for Square. They are thicker than Exotek C hubs. The Exotek are the exact copy of Tamiya C hubs and which makes it bend easily.

The TRF420 is still available here in Germany. Still this car is awesome, when it comes to competition to other brands (such as Mugen, Xray or Awesomatix). In the end ifs the same choice as for 1:1 cars (someone likes Toyota more than BMW... or Audi more than Daimler...).I am still doing practise with my 420 and looking forward for races (currently in Germany we hav no races). So I am racing on my local indoor track and still trying to get the best out of my setup (mainly tweaking springs, toe and rollcenter settings).

The weak point of the 420 suspension seems the steering upright, not the C Hub. I contacted Exotek to see if he had any interest in making one out of aluminium.. seems his focus is on other things these days.

I noticed Xray has them.. wonder if they will fit our C Hubs?

I just use the 419 type wheelhubs, cut a tiny part off the inside to get full steering lock. works well so far. and any tamiya fan has these parts left from older cars...

Anyone have an update on the 420? Tamiya USA has it being listed as discontinued. Is there a updated car being released?

Default TRF420 vs. MTC2 testing of Kentech

It seems to have gone unnoticed, that kentech found the TRF420 consistently faster on asphalt than the MTC2...?

Ill take whatever this guy say with a grain of salt...

Hes comparing a car he owned since launch to a car he just finished putting together and spent, what, 1-2 track sessions with? Not to mention he needs to car to be in a sellable condition afterwards which he promptly put it up for sale after releasing his article.

Well have you ever seen direct comparisons between two cars, where FDR, battery, tyres, pilot have been the same?
He mentioned all facts including how much track time he had? We all know him as Tamiya loyalist, but he also had many good words for the MTC2. If after two trackdays the gap remained constant for him, I assume he tested well...

As long as nobody shows up with a better test and compariaon session that remains my benchmark.

I quite enjoy and appreciate Kentech reviews etc. but I also was not convinced that a thorough comparison was made - despite considerable efforts by Kentech to build and equip the cars the same. I was in particular bothered by the difference in diff height - diffs were much lower in the 420 and I wanted to know if the diffs could be lowered in the Mugen to more closely match in setup but no more testing was done. The 420 is for sure a good car but the Mugen is for sure not slower unless something is off - results around the world are proving this. The Mugen is on fire. Again - no disrespect intended to Kentech - just really wanted to see more testing with the Mugen.

Hard to tell how far on or off the pace the TRF offerings are right now after they scaled way back on their driver program...
