The question must be answered by the race promoter. Motor would have to be checked before and after the reseal on a motorlyzer.

Ultimately no one should strip screws like that. It only happens as people use a small screw with just two threads showing from the bulkhead. You should have 5mm+ going into the motor.

I run McMaster 18-8 stainless steel socket head screws m3 10mm long. A 100 count costs 4.53. buy these...

I wouldn't use stainless. But the idea is right. Lots of thread engagement is good. The normal alloy screws are much stronger. Not that we need stronger screws per-se... But having a stronger screw means a stronger hex, and able to take more torque, for both installation and removal. Stainless also work hardens faster.. and with lopsided motor mounts, bending loads is a concern for me.

Part number for steel 12.8 steel.
91290A115 7.36

Part number for 18-8 Stainless.
91292A113 4.53

Also: Stripped screws holes are a benefit of renting motors. It's not "your worry".

i don't promote the idea of "it's not your worry". rentals only work when people do the right thing. if abused -- this whole thing will go away.

when we had a few reports of this at NYGP i personally spoke w/ both of the 'recent' motor (current day, and yesterday) users and "demanded" they show me their motor screws. this is where i got my two thread comment form.

It's a sword that cuts both ways. "I" am not going to abuse a rented motor. But it's nice to be secure in the fact that if I do get a motor someone screwed up, it's not mine to live with.

So.. you are having trouble with that. It.. might be worth issuing motor screws with the motors. At least if that's a big worry. It would cost something like $0.25 a motor, once you account for shipping and losses. I suspect you'd need to spend another $0.14 cents a motor, year to year, to account for stripped heads. But those are just guesses. :-)

.. I personally wouldn't trust other peoples screws.

Hi guys I finally got some time to test a little. Tested roughly 20 different combinations on the Serpent for Super Stock and ended with an internal around 2.007ish. I'm not 100% yet on the exact number but that one is very close.
112/36 for example produces and FDR of 6.24 which is still over what it would be with 2.00 but not as high as I though. I think that we just didn't let the RPM stabilize the first time around.
I think I found 2 combinations that are super close to 6.20 and ordered the Spurs to try them out. I will ask the Apex guys to try it as well to confirm they work.
Thanks

There was an Edit at bottom of the Wiki that was inaccurate, I modified it.
Thank you

The first Can-Am Stock TC race went great at Soda City RC. Everyone who ran the class loved it. So nice not having to worry about motor/gearing/timing and just driving/setup.

Have six more people wanting to join and I'm sure there will be more after this weekend.

HUGE thanks to the guys behind Can-Am!

To me this motor “thing” is like renting bowling shoes or socialism racing lol

SSTC at 5280 has been popular so far! (Still called 17.5 for now but it's CanAm SS)

From what I hear people are 0.1 to 0.3 off their 17.5 hot lap (depended upon how good their motor was).
people with slower motors are now back in the game...

Default Canam series

yesterday at Xtreme carpet raceway we ran canam series there and had a great time. Times were closer and was alot of fun not worring about motors, rollout. We just ran and worried about set up. It was great and fun. Ran it at Halloween Classic was a blast also.
Thanks for putting this type of racing together. It makes it more enjoyable and cheaper motors.

Second week for Can-Am Stock TC at SCRC. Biggest class of the day. Had some extremely close racing with the top 3. Think we spent most of the race within 2 seconds apart and I just edged out the win by a few tenths.

Now if I can just get Can-Am going for 1/12...

Very close. I'm within .1 of my 17.5 times on hot lap and faster over the run. Other guys that probably had much better 17.5's than me are seeing more like .2 drop off. I find it quite a bit more fun to drive though. Lots of rip in the infield but marginally slower on the straight.

The 2019 Canadian Nats has added Can-Am Stock TC to the list of classes and I'm on the fence about it... I'm not even sure what it really is speed wise?
