Is there a way to calculate what mah lipo is the least I can get away with for a 10m main? I will be getting them for a SC5m, Reds 8.5 motor, 120a esc, 1258 servo...
I have 2 5800mah and 2 6000mah square packs that have never been a problem. But, I am interested in picking up 2 shorties as well for tuning options...

I'll take a stab it this. First off, I've run my SC5M,powered by an ORCA VX3/ORCA 7.5T, using a Turnigy Nano-Tech 4200mah shorty with no issues. Though after 10 minutes it did discharge below 50% capacity.
I'm not sure how to get an exact measurement so that you can choose a battery. But you can get close. You can take a battery that you're sure holds near it's rated capacity, run it for 10 minutes at race pace, then charge it back to capacity, noting how much the charger put back in. Then you'll know how much mah you'll need. I don't like running below 50% capacity so I would then double that number. The doubled number is the minimum size battery you'd need.

You can pick anything really? Price varies a lot and sometimes that relates to performance. But the ones I have been running and having good luck with is Reedy Mach 3 and Schuur Speed for sensored, and Leopard for non-sensored.

I put the Fantom fr1 17.5 in my b5m stock buggy...LOVE IT! But, I had put a Reds 17.5 in my stock T5m ST ride before that and it seems great too. In my SC5m, I put the Reds 8.5 for mod class in it has plenty of speed for our small, tight, with traction from dusty/loose to med-high grip. I also have a Reds 6.5 in my mod 44.3 as well. The Reds go for about $90 if I remember correctly. When I was doing my research for 17.5 stock buggy and ST, it seemed the most popular motors were the FR1, Mach 3 and 24K...

I believe that is for the basic one. At least that was the case when I went to their website and ordered mine about 2 months ago. I got the "works" model with 7or 8 of the 11 upgrades and it costs me about $150 with shipping.

I honestly don't remember. I didn't know which to pick from the specs. But, I do remember that their site has the information to guide you through it. It will tell you which vehicles are suited for the R, T, & S I think were the choices. Then there was another option (when ordering the Works edition) where you have to select size and track grip. It also asked if you want them to set the timing based on your answers or set to default timing.

Well I got my SC5M built and ready to race, 1st race with it will be Fri Jan 13th. Race my step daughters SC10 RTR at the 1st points race back in Dec so I would not miss out on the winter points series. I had only raced one time since my 12 year retirement (Oct 8th) and it was 1/8th scale stuff. I ran the CORR 17.5 class (yes I put a HW XR10 Pro and 17.5 motor in her SC10 RTR to race it), qualified 2nd overall and finished 3rd in the A main. I was taken out in the 1st turn and had to battle back from 7th place start and was gaining on the leaders. So I have big hopes with the SC5M for the 13th. I was real pleased with the results for 1st time at that track, did not get a chance to do any practice laps with her truck (let her get all the practice in she could as it was her 1st ever race, she ran novice finished 16th out of 18 but improved everytime she raced) and 1st time in 12 years to race 10th scale. Running both trucks (SC10/SC5M) at the local park on black top bball court the SC5M does feel more planted. Now I did just horrible with my RC8B3E and RC8T3E.

Got a width question, I have seen here to use the 6mm hex on front and 8.5mm hex on rear along with +3mm offset wheels to achieve proper width. ROAR stats 295.91mm as max width for a 2wd SC truck. My SC5M with the 6mm and 8.5mm hexs with what I believe are 0 offset wheels (http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...5&I=LXFPLZ&P=K as it does not stat a + offset) is 295.275. Now 295.275mm is just 0.65mm narrower than legal limit. So how would +3 offset wheels be legal? +3 offset wheels would make you 301.275mm wide. Am I missing something or you guys just running wide for club races?
