Default zx-5

dayton,

yes binarry is talking about DB's. i almost wonder if ben ellis' slick track setup would work as DB's is known not to be high bite.

binarry, i will be joining you with the setups as i just picked up a kyosho.

Vic,
He just pm'd me and I gave him my slick track setup.
I usually race at the fish store in LaPorte,Indiana.
That place is pretty slick to start the day and gets worse through the day.

Ben's setup from Columbus would probably be pretty good also.

foolio,
If you rotate your rx 180 deg. the servo plugs will be under the cockpit area and should allow pleanty of room.. It may also make for a "cleaner" install.. JMO..

another suggestion, mount the rx on the chassis w/ the servo leads facing back and inside.. This will allow somewhat easy access the the freq. dials (would move them to the outside endge)..

Just a sugestion..

Any one know how to eliminate or reduce the torque-steer on this buggy? My zx-5 seems to pull to the right under heavy acceleration.. I am running box-stock w/ 40 wt shock fluid front and rear (and a GTB 6.5).. I am also using the front one-way..

Loose the front oneway !and use the ball diff with the oneway on the driveshaft. This is how all of us at RCE got rid of it !

Thanks, I may try one of those options. Not ready to set it in stone yet...

Thumbs up

I decided to go ahead and use the "ALJR Body Mod" to get the clearance I needed for the fan. To my surprise it was really easy and turned out quite well. All I used was heat gun on high and pointed it directly at the spot I wanted to re-form and voila! The heat gun softened the lexan and pushed out a nice little bubble. Now I have about a 1/4 of an inch of clearance where the fan was once hitting. I can really push on the body and wiggle it around and the fan still won't rub. It really doesn't look too bad either, but hey, I am more of function over form guy myself. Thanks ALJR!

While we're on the subject of electronics, what servo would you guys recommend for the ZX-5? I was looking at the Airtronics 94162Z, but I'm not sure if it'll fit. Any suggestions?

Your welcome foolio! Glad I could help

captain america, not too sure what your looking to spend. But I love my JR9000s servo. I used it in my 1/8 buggy over the summer and its now in my zx-5 for the winter (and its going to stay in it)..

The servos specs:
Torque: 128 oz/in @ 6V
Speed: .06/60 degrees @ 6V
Dimensions: 0.83x1.59x1.50 in
Weight: 2.2 oz
Gears: Metal Gears

Hi ALJR.

The JR servo you're using seems to compare favourably with the airtronics 94162Z. Torque and weight are pretty similar, but the JR seems quite a bit faster in terms of response time. To be perfectly honest, I don't know if a difference between 0.6s and 0.18 sec will really make such a difference to me. Perhaps I'll try the Airtronics to start with, and if I really notice the delayed steering response, I may just swap it for the JR 9000S.

Compared to the electronics I was using 14-15 years ago, even the crappiest modern servo probably has F-1 performance
