Question about your shock setup. So you're saying that a 1.3x3 hole piston will have more pack then a 1.6x2 hole piston?

Gene,
When you swapped the rear arms to mount the shocks behind the rear shock tower. How did you re-attach the rear sway bar? Also, can you go over your shock build again. I re-did mine and they still feel stiff. The track you are running in the video has a nice groove. The one I am running on is very loose and dusty. I should have video and set up posted soon on here and facebook. I took 9th overall in 4wd buggy with the box stock setup. |

The track was slick and a little dusty in the video from Wed because they redid the track on Monday & Tuesday. The same setup worked good. The only thing I changed was went to the outer shock mounting holes on the arms to stiffen it up once the track grooved up. |
On the shocks, my kit came with 2 different sets of shock plastics. I used the middle washer from the original kit and the top and bottom plastics from the updated kit. That fit the best and gave the smoothest feel. Before the mains, I checked the shocks and they still had the same rebound and no air and no leaks, so they are good. The only question is how to get those if they were not in your kit (I had one from the first batch). They have updated the shock plastics 3 or 4 times in the last 2 years but they all have the same part #. :weird:

Just drill a 2.5mm hole in the arm and screw in a ball end.

Its interesting how everyone that drives this car near me comes on the stand with this confused face. Then they comment, "its smooth and ridiculously easy to drive."
I can not wait to push this car to its limits at JConcepts. Most people complain about parts availability but so far I have broke nothing (knock on wood). Might need to stock up on parts when people start seeing this car in action and start buying them. This might be the new hot 4wd soon that everyone wants to get. |
the cars been pretty durable here,i have managed to break a couple front hubs and spindle under the right conditions lol.i broke a front arm but it was a wide open down the straight head on with a turn marshall so it was expected that something would break.
|
One trick I have done is replace the front arm spacer with a shock o-ring. That way when I tag a PVC pipe, the arm can give 1.5mm. That helps save the arm and caster block from breaking during a hard hit. Other then some bent hinge pins, nothing has broke for me since.

In all my years this might be the smartest modification I have seen. Good looking out for the fellow racers!

I also do this on my 1/8 BR-6 buggies, but I use a P4 size o-ring. I use them for the arm and rear upright spacers. It takes up the slop without binding.

I would have to imagine having less parts wear with no plastic rubbing on plastic... do you lubricate the o-rings too, or run them dry?

makes sense, thanks!

Definitely want to try the o-ring idea.
Not to highjack the thread - but there is a great product Dry Fluid Extreme (PM me for more details, since this isn't the place). It provides great lubrication properties for bearings, ball joints, any metal to metal or plastic to plastic contact points. But it dries, not like Teflon and oil that attrach dirt. Unfortunately, rained out after one run today, but so far, car and parts have been durable on my end -- and I have been known to break a part or two :sneaky::sneaky: |
