o.s. engine breakin
this weekend i finally got a chance to break my new o.s. 12 in. set the carb to what the book say and pulled and pulled. finally it started. it ran for about 2 mins then died. i pulled and pulled and nothing. replaced the plug and it acked like it wanted to start but after some pulling nothing. could the new plug be bad? when breaking in engines how many, if any, plugs should i go through

Its a common problem. Replace the batteries in your glow ignitor and prime the engine.

For now blow through the lines or put a drops of fuel down the carb.
Are you blocking the exhaust and then yanking the recoil to prime the engine?

yes. and no fuel goes to the carb. ill try putting fuel in the carb today and see what happens. thanks TD !

One thing I always do when I can't prime an engine is remove the line going to the carb, then I block the exhaust and prime it. When the fuel reaches the end, I put the line back on and give it a final yank.

To prime my engines:
Open carb with servo electronics off
Kink off the pressure line at the tank
Flip the tank lid up and down a few times
You should be able to see the fuel go thru the lines to the carb assuming you're using clear line.
You may have to lean the hsn a bit if it's to blubbery even to break in. You're elevation and air density may be different from the place where os wrote their manuals.

thanks guys. i took it out yesterday and put some fuel in the carb and it pulled over soooo hard. i took the plug out and pulled and it pulled easy. put the plug back in and pulled. my god did it pull hard. its on my work bench now waiting to get tore apart. what could make it pull so hard?? when i pull the starter its like it has super compresion or something.

sounds like you are flooding it.....take the glow plug out and turn the engine over a few pulls...try leaning out the low end a little to get it started, then once you do you can richen it back up for break in.

so beings that its pulling so hard and without the plug pulling easy means its fludded?

thats sad that you know so little
plug out means no seal obviously makes it easy to pull
my suggestion for lack of priming carb possition try paying with the carby open or closed while priming should prime best with it closed
are obviously over priming if it gets to hard to put take the plug out hold the truck upside down and turn the enigne onver a few times to empty it then reprime
dont keep pulling it when it floods you will kill your OWB or pullstart
just get clear fuel like and when the fuel is close to the carby give it 2 more priming pulls then try to start it

You might want to find someone with a starter box to give you a little help through this stage. I always found pull starts to be very finicky, and without nearly ideal settings, you'll always have trouble starting it. Once it's broken in and tuned, you should be able to go back without trouble.
