so what's the deal with the wood screws? I'm about half way through the build and curious how these screws hold up over time when servicing the diffs. How long does the coarse thread hold up? Has anyone heard of any logic behind using this hardware instead of traditional hex heads?

Has anyone swapped out to hex heads yet?

never had half a problem with the woodscrews and wont be swapping them out ever. you'd be there forever unwinding a 30+mm fine thread

on page 29 of the manual, there seems to be 2 missing 3x10 screws and nuts that are omitted from fastening the left nerf guard, is there any reason behind this or simply a mistake in the manual? The hardware is missing from the bag for this step too.

No mistake…….they are left out due to flex.

The battery tray will help stiffen the left side.

Follow the manual and enjoy the build

so flex is good?

I saw some other folks mention that they had the servo mount posts snap (presumably from flex), has anyone determined what's causing that? Any chance those folks have added those screws on the side guard (or not) which can potentially be causing the posts to snap just above the M4 screws? I'm curious to understand if there is any relationship to both areas in question.

Nope, I followed the manual in regards to those screws.

Personally havent had an issue and ive had some big crashes. I still think its from being over tensioned personally...

i've broken one of those posts on a big flat land/chassis slap. i've got all screws and twin stiffeners at rear, but there comes a time where the chassis may still tweak enough to snap those lightweight posts. really not a big deal, and may not end your race, I finished a whole day before I even saw it.

I'd think that if you don't tighten the screws, then they will fall out over time, and at the very least introduce steering slop. It makes more sense to me to use thread lock. Is there a front aluminum chassis brace available? If so, has anyone had any luck with it?

On my other eBug, I've found it necessary to upgrade to aluminum chassis braces with it, and I will occasionally snap the heads off the 3mm screws which secure the braces from under the chassis...oops, I'm a sucker for triples and quads, ha!

Have you considered trying plastic posts? I almost wonder if there are some plastic buggy wing posts that might fit? It would be nice to address the issue and not have to deal with the extra maintenance.
