When I ran my 1/8 E Truggy back in the day, a converted RC8TE, when I tried the 4900mah PolyRC packs at the time I was getting about 13 minutes max runtime in the winter on slick conditions, but track (200 ft straightway) using the castle 1515 2200Kv motor. Tires were old school MT style stuff too.
Depending on his driving style and if he goes lightweight, it may work. It will be interesting to see thats for sure.

It will be close, but I think he can make it.

I have no idea how on earth you guys are getting so much run time. I am quite smooth on throttle, no drifting, a lot of feather the throttle. In 7 min on high or low bite, I use around 4000mah..... Maybe you guys are on your lid a bit? E buggy, yeah, I only use 3000mah in 7min....

no worries. I remember my disbelief when guys where posting getting 25 minutes on a 5000mah pack when 1/8 electric was first starting. And these guys aren't on there lids
They did do it though, but, how they drove was a strong factor in it and track layout and conditions matter too.
In general, i don't feather the throttle, I try to keep a constant input to the throttle as that is what I am used to and shoot to maintain speed through the turns. others I see will kill the brake then gun it to through. Never could get used to that at all.
Lots of factors come in to how much runtime you see. but I have been there, done it, and saw it. I couldn't get to the mythical lands of 25 minute runtimes on a 5000mah pack, but in low traction, slick conditions where the weather outside was in the negatives and indoors you were about 32 ish from what I remember which was "warm" and hence, in the cold would affect the batteries, it was able to get that kind of runtime.
Crashes, marshalling needed, sure. but I wasn't sitting on my lid for minutes on end.
looking at what you are guys are seeing for burn through time of say 4000mah in 7 minutes, you are doing about 570mah a minute?
When I did E-truggy back in the day, my goal of a battery pack was to get one that would last a guarenteed 15 minutes. the PolyRC 6000mah 25C lipos of the day did this. I could average about 17 minutes in a truggy from fully charged.
Track conditions were Pingree RC Park which you can find on youtube.

+1 . For my needs, that is why at the time I looked for batteries that woudl give me a guarenteed 15 minutes for the places I ran and conditions.
May be worth doing that if you have any concerns about runtime you need.

was running 5400mah packs I picked up from promatch. may go with 6500s next all around or, could do dual 7200mah 2S with that male to male plug they make. On the heavy side but getting some reuse is a plus

I get 17 mins on a tekin 1500 KV motor and Gen 2 rx8 esc , with a gen ace 5000 mah 40c pack running in series 2s and 3s for 5s configuration on RC8t no problem leaving about 20 % left on the lipos , and i run on a big 1/5 scale track some what technical on the inside but open on the outside with a couple of big table tops and yes we need the mud guards out here

( still took 3rd ) I was using a tekin 2000kv motor with 2x2s 7200mah IP packs from pro match. It was cold out (30-40deg). I charges the batteries up to see how much I used, and had put approx 7000mah back in... I was trying to coast and take it easy too, the track was medium bite due to the cold. Most of the e truggies dumped as well while using 6500+ mah......

I would really love to see someone come down to Houston for roar E-nats and expect to make 10 mins in truggy on a 4600. You would be severely disappointed when you dump and loose. Not one single person down here can make these mythical 30min run times on 7200s myself, symmetricon, and mullet included its just crazy to even think that.

Will the Hobbywing Xerun 150a esc fit in this truggy? Seems like an odd design to be so tight on the ESC with so much room!
I've raced etruggy for years.. good 6500-7000 packs in a 4s config will get you 14-15min in a reasonable setup (1900kv range) this will be a struggle as the packs age. I push my etruggy 17~20min fairly often racing; but to do so I use a 1550kv motor and 6s 5000mah lipo, this is safe and I've found reliable. To make a 30min race I need to swap packs no if and's or buts... it would take a BRICK of a lipo to make 30min on one pack. I did a lot of tq, wins on a huge 1/8 track.. w/ a long straight and motocross style jumps.. obviously you can reduce needed mah/min taking the track and driver into consideration. The 4s configs lose run time pretty quick, weaker packs tend to poof pretty quick as you push past 12 minutes of racing on a regular basis. At 4s the amp draw is pretty significant in the etruggy, so it's a real torture test on your packs. BTW I use to really like the IP packs, IMo they suck these days buying from promatch or anywhere they poof in no time, still usable but poofed.
