Tekno ET48 Thread

Hey guys,
I have my kit built as far as I can go with it until my motor and ESC arrive this week. Went together really nice except for the shims when installing the front and rear difs into the cases. I wish I had gone back and read page one again as I bent a couple of them pretty bad trying to get them in place.
Did anyone find that a few of the screws with smaller heads were were machined off a bit, allowing a lot of play around your allen head driver? I don't remember exactly but it seems like the ones I had a problem with were 2mm for the driver.
I'm using an old set of Losi drivers and they all seemed to fit perfectly when I built my Associated buggy a month ago.

ok I was doing some testing on motor temp/esc temp, and trying to figure out the whining sound. I did in-fact find a few things not to my liking on a $600 kit. Do note this is brand new. 1st off I found that my passenger-front drive shaft is warped about 2mm-3mm. This is causing quite a vibration. Possible whine candidate. And before I mention the 2nd issue please do understand I'm not a newbie to building r/c's I have built and flown helis for about 10 years, and been building cars since I was 18.. The center diff gear has a wobble to it. I built it as I do all diffs tightening screws down in a cross pattern a little at a time to keep from warping the plastic. and there is a wobble in the pinion gear also. Put both of them together and there is another possible culprit to the whine. I am disappointed in the drive shaft and the center diff gear, both are warped and came from the factory this way. I am picky and have little to no tolerance for warped parts. LIke the new set of Sweep truggies tires I got the premounted... they are absolutely terrible. Warp'd to high hell and back.. Sweep USA was like oh well sorry to hear that.
This is simply a failure of quality assurance on Tekno's part. Over the years I have found a smaller, new, company always ends up sliding down this road. Greed takes over and quality is surpassed by quantity. Cheaper materials creep in. I hope I'm wrong and Tekno stays on top of their products. Firstly let test there customer service and see if they will replace the warped parts. Hopefully i'm not out the cost of replacing the parts. But nevertheless I still love this truck. And look forward to racing it.

I thought I had read that stainless screws wouldn't be as strong as what comes in most kits but then I read somewhere that it was the opposite.
I just found where I read that.
There is a link to a FAQ on rcscrewz.com where they claim their stainless will be stronger than stock.
I'm not sure what the truth is.

Do a quick google search for stainless vs 12.9. That should pretty much answer all your questions. rcsrewzed serves it's purpose for some applications, as long as you understand what you're really buying. They're great for the "bling factor" or those that don't want to source a full kit replacement, don't get me wrong.... but IMO tekno vehicles stick to racing and quality.
Thanks to cannonballs and Mizchief for the info as well.

Mess with the cap that covers the spur. It is very close to the spur and can rub the spur if your not careful and cause a whining sound. It will not hurt anything but can irritate you if you are someone who wants a super quiet car. I make sure i thread the screws into the center diff housing, remove them and countersink the holes to make sure the spur sits dead flat. All my teknos are quiet. Its just super close clearance so extra attention to little details is required there. Hope this helps.

common.. I love my tekno's but listen the customer service is marginal at best. Even on brand new kit parts defective before you get them they make you pay to ship them in, then pay to get the replacement. They only offered me a discount on my et48 outdrives that were showing wear signs after just 20minutes or so of use.. and that was a discount after I paid for shipping both ways. I decided to just run them and replace when they get unusable as the price wasn't much different and I don't have to go with out a vehicle for a week.... lets call a spade a spade.
Again love my teknos but please this company's CS is on the very bottom of the scale.

Every time I've dealt with them they've been great!

I new there was a difference, just didn't realize there was that much. Not that it matters now because I recently switched to really good titanium screws. I don't know about other guys, but bling has nothing to do with it for me. I'm just anal when it comes to rust. Lol All it takes is a little humidity.

9 times out of 10, 12.9 grade hardware is going to be the best for almost all RC applications from everything I've read and researched.

I didn't actually look for anything else and just kinda assumed they wouldn't make a false statement if it's easy to prove them wrong.
But I know now to be sure I understand a little better before dropping money on any kind of aftermarket screws.

I'm a little bitter as I created a PITA situation for myself when using one of those kits on an SC10 so I could have metrics, then they started breaking and ended up with a half metric half stainless mess.
