I would have to disagree with that reliability and support comment.

From personal experience. Have 4x different HW ESCs (oldest of which is 3 years) and 2x motors. Only lost 1 ESC due to programming failure. HW North America replaced the hardware in about a week.

Between the 4 of us in a racing group, we have 8x HW ESCs and not a single practice or race day failure. Out of 100 entries on an average race day, there is about 25% HW hardware out there (LHS carries the brand and price is right). Have seen some HW failures in the last 3 years, but experienced a lot more Tekin RX8 v1 and v2 going out.

Not sponsored or fanboy, although I did standardize on HW; just an observation.

Nice to know HW america is replacing hardware under warranty,tekin has been really good about that also,Thats what it really comes down to on who is going to win the market for the long haul,chinese companies up the wazoo are making esc and motors now.

The kit horn sits HIGH on the servo and the steering link mounts below. Look for a tall servo horn so you have clearance under the horn for the ball link. If you don't have enough clearance the ball link and or head of mounting screw will hit the servo body and can limit the amount of steering you have. Look at these and pic your poison.

I Don't see many Savox servos around here in 4wd truck due to the brownouts they caused in the past. They may have that fixed now, but Hitec is a sure bet with many choices and great support. nod:

Same thing here in the North east, more and more guys are switching over to hobbywing after their expensive speed controllers go up in smoke.

We've too have had a mass exodus away from Tekin and towards Hobbywing over the past year. I had one HW 3.1 DOA but they were super quick to replace it. I don't know of anyone else in the club, possibly 40 or so HW speedos purchased and none have gone bad. A few made reverse polarity mistakes but thats it.

Not a bad purchase. I have a 1258 in each of my rigs, including e-buggy. Haven't broke one yet. No brownouts with Airtronics and HW.

My only other experience is with Spektrum and Protek. Both were good, but gave them away as hand-me-downs.

Sorry, I realize this is a SCTE forum, but folks are running these electronics in this winner of a truck.

The same model I have in mine. I tried a capacitor etc, and no go. Luckily 4wd SCT is my second class on days I can be bothered tuning my nitro, so I could still race. This was last season, and I kinda knew I needed to try another servo. Im running a Mamba Monster ESC, and a Trackstar motor. Not flashy but its quick enough.

Just curious. Which radio are you using when you experience these brownouts with your Castle ESC?

If it is Spektrum, changing a servo may not fix your problem. You may have to change the ESC or the radio. I have been through that...

Iv'e heard other people say you cant go wrong with the Hobbywing sct pro esc, being a beginner I might just start with one

All center, Front and Rear diffs interchange between Losi 810, SCTE V1 and V2, Losi Ten T, Losi Ten Rally X, Troy Lee DesignsŪ RTR and Nitro Ten SCTE truck.

However, get the HD case that came out with the 2.0 truck for the best one.

I prefer Hitec. I have used most brands. Even the cheap $9 servos can last a few months and win races. I sometimes drive 400 miles to a race and DNF must be avoided. The Hitec 7955TG will out last your truck. I use it for all 1/8 scale rigs and 4wd SCT. The Hitec 7954 is really good on 7.4 volts. The DS1015 is also a good choice, but only the factory horn or a clamping style aluminum horn will fit correctly. There are many servo choices. Some cost $300 which I cant justify for any surface vehicle.

Something I don't see drivers talk about much is servo speed for SCT. My experience has been that anything slower than .15 wont cut it. Anything faster than .09 is beyond most drivers ability making steering hyper sensitive. I feel .12 or .13 is perfect. I tend to adjust voltage on ESC to achieve speed close to that.

You have to find what works best for you and your budget.

I use the DS1015 myself, I have 3 of them, all of them approaching over 2 years old and never an issue.
Im also using the TLR servo horn for it as well, no fitment issues either.
When they do finally bite the bullet I may look at the 7955TG as a replacement, im actually going to compare the specs on it now.
