Thank you! I'm assuming the B4.1 you linked will fit on the B4.2 RTR? Also what would you suggest using or the rear?

Using a 9880 steering block? If so, good to go. The 9890 rear wheel hex...thumbs up.

What would everyone recommend for rear axles / drivetrain for carpet?

CVAs/CVDs are not a "must have" item if a person has to choose to make budget. They are nice to have. A geared diff will be fine for high gripping carpet rides. No need to go out and get a ball diff.

So I just picked up 4.2 as first electric, first buggy, and after 10 years out of the game (Still have 2 nitro trucks but haven't ran in years). I found local indoor clay track in area i moved to and figured why not. Seems to be great, nothing has broken after about 3 hours worth of true track time. no racing of yet, but enjoying it.

Any advise, suggestions, comments, etc. I read through some of the forum, but there is soooo much.

Thanks

Mike

I continue to bring and use a 4.2 to the track each time. It was/is a great car to practice and learn on. My advice is to just run it and rebuild it when necessary. Learn to make adjustments....ride height, tires, shock oil, gearing, etc.

Get the tires that work (you probably have), and download and apply a setup from rc10.com that best matches your track. The b4.2/rear motor cars are still very competitive, despite what current trends would have you believe.

Get front end parts because your track's shop may not carry things like caster blocks or pivots and arms and the B5 stuff likely won't fit since it's metric and different design in some cases (though the cars have exactly the same base geometry).

Race and enjoy.

B4.1

Do the B4.1 and the B4.2 use the same parts, bodies, wheels and tires? What are the differences in the buggies?
Thanks

rustyus 01-22-2017 05:49 AM

All depends on if you are talking about a RC10B4.2 "FT" factory team kit or the RC10B4.2RS. The B4.2FT chassis is longer than the B4.2RS, but hexes are used for wheels on both the B4.2 platforms. In general, all parts are interchangeable between the B4.1/B4.2 platforms. Just download the manuals and you will quickly see all the same parts.

Here is a list of the parts required to convert a 4.1 into a 4.2.

Everything else is compatible, just match the body to the chassis that you are running (normal length or +8mm)

Any visual differences between the original and +8mm chassis, or do you just measure the wheelbase? I picked up a used RC10B4.2 which had a lot of parts thrown at it, so am unsure if its the original chassis or not.

I know its been a long time since someone posted in this thread but...

Does a B5/B6 idler gear fit in the B4 series transmission? Looking to use one of the carbon idler gears for a lightweight alternative.

Does anyone happen to have 1 or 2 MIP 12156 Aluminum Topshafts?

MIP Aluminum Top Shaft Hard Coated, Associated B4.2/4.1/4 , T4.2/4.1/4, SC10 #12156 *Discontinued*

They are discontinued obviously with how old the B4 series is, but am looking for a dirt oval vehicle that is a stock spec motor and those cars use the old B4 series stuff.

Thanks!

You could use the Avid topshaft - AVD1020-TOP-AE-STD
Amain still has them. Not sure about the idler sorry

Hi,

The B4 to B5/B6 idler is different.

The B4 bearings are imperial while the B5/B6 bearings are metric.

MiCk B. :-)

rustyus 08-10-2017 04:27 AM

B4.1/B4.2 outdrive bearings are metric...and has no affect on idler size in the "4" series platforms. The stock 9360 idler gear is plenty strong. Weight savings would be minimal.
