geo, has relative setup advice. he may be slower but that dose not mean his cars don't drive well, and none of the top guys in the nw use this fricken forum!!!

just pm him. And you should check his race results at his local track before you put stock in his setup advice...he's routinely 2 laps down from the faster guys at his track. I'm sure there is better people to get setup advice from lol

Wild cherry will you post that setup for 17.5 with a shorty for me?

run the portland cav setup... its pretty close to what the guys here run.
george races mod class, and yes sometimes 2 laps down because he races with pro drivers who fly on airplanes around the world to race rc cars. best in the business. id love to see old turbo try to hang with these guys. lol

TRCR N/w Gold Cup Oct 12th & 13th

Set -up I promise to post ...

There is no one set-up @ Trcr all the drivers
have their own particular set-ups .
Most are very similar however with only one or two details that are different.

This set-up is for 17.5 & jswo ..

Jswo
I don't know if you even race in the N/w , this set-up is for med to med high traction indoor clay .

The set-up is a great 17.5 base set-up to begin with
if your attending TRCR's Gold Cup on Aug 12th & 13th...
Also will perform great at the our other indoor tracks such as
4 Season, BRCR & Top Gear ....

Front shocks( 12mm shock)

1.4 x 3 contour piston , 35W , 3 x .030 internal shim, green spring

Shock location = inside hole on front tower & outside hole on front arm

Rear shocks ( 12 mm shock)

1.6 x 2 contour piston, 32.5W , 2 x .030 internal shim, white spring

Rear Shock location = inside on rear tower & inside on rear arm

Rear camber stud locations = inside hole on tower, shaved U brace , 1 x .030 under ball stud , 2nd inside hole on C-brace

Rear hub location = middle of rear arm

Motor & Spur

Reedy Sonic 17.5 , 69 spur / 32 pinion 65C full size battery

Ballast weight
team ballast weight next to transmission, 7 grams in rear corner of chassis , 14 grams on top of servo , 7 gram next

ESC mounted on the side

carbon arms front & rear , carbon nose plate , carbon rear U brace

Ride height 24mm if track is fresh , 23 mm if racing Gold Cup

Slipper = Avid Triad , use 1 white pad behind spur, 1 red pad outside next to spur & 1 white pad

adjust so front nose of car raises 1 in

BTW

Do not attempt to PM me .

I do not use .
If you need to contact me please use this thread ....

I do not claim to be the fastest or best ..

I am very competitive however , just ask any who have a clue ..

Not to mention the fast guys here make the A in the non invite @ the Reedy race ....

You will have to be one of the Ryans to beat our best drivers ....

Asking the one guy, who openly hates stock 17.5 racing more than anyone on this forum, for set up advice...

If I drive a 22 in 2wd and a 44.1 in 4wd does that mean Cav, Mans, Phend and Evans are all my 'teammates'..? I should throw on some Kyosho springs and include Tebo as well:ha:

Wild Cherry 10-01-2013 09:54 AM

My team mates that are very competitive.
Scott Brown is of the few Ae factory drivers...

I rebuilt his Sc10 2w over this week end, drove it 3 packs last night tuning .

If Scott can trust me to help him ? Think .....

I try to be way more informative then those who come only to make put down posts against others members in a attempt to help them selves get more attention...

Fast guys are fast regardless of what they're driving. The setup isn't good just because a fast guy can drive it. They have the skill to drive around the shortcomings of a setup.

The 2 fast guys in my neck of the woods can usually pick up half a second or more over me, on my own car. Doesn't mean my car is good, they're just gifted.

Moral of the story... setup help is always great, but take it all with a grain of salt, and do what works for you. There's no cookie-cutter setup that works everywhere.

Im mainly wanting to know about how much weight to add to chassis with a 17.5 and shorty. I tried it without any weight other than ballast and didnt like it. I had 1 full pad in front and the esc on shelf. Still have stock shock setup but thinking of trying 32.5 and 27.5. Also wondering about pistons, only extras I have are 3x1.4 tapered. The track is topsoil medium traction in central us.

jswo 10-01-2013 10:34 AM

Also I dont have c hubs or a shaved brace.

Is it normal for the steering to be limited when in full droop? I used 3 limiters as specified but the spindle hits the arms when on the stand. It doesn't look like it needs that much travel anyway, should I just limit the travel in the full droop position? Or did I do something wrong in assembly

Wildcat1971 10-01-2013 10:38 AM

well, so you running inline electronics? I still use 1/4oz in the rear triangles. And I sometimes put 28grams under the rear battery tray in 17.5, but my traction might not be as high as yours. I like the added weight when traction is lower. But I always run the ballast and 1/4 in the rear triangles. I run the 1.4x3 pistons front and rear with 35/32.5 oils. Right now I am running black front springs and green rears for additions steering. And i run 17.5 with my esc on the shelf.

What didn't you like about it?

I ran my B4 with no extra weight, other than aluminum front bulkhead. 17.5 with shorty all the way forward. ESC in the back of the tray.

I ran the tapered 1.4x3 pistons, 32 front w/Black AE spring, 30 rear w/Green AE spring. Everything else was basically stock setup.

Ran this setup for several months. Was very good. Easy to drive fast and made good traction.

hmm, I will look when I get home. I run 3 limiters and never noticed an issue.

jswo 10-01-2013 10:43 AM

I didnt try battery all the way forward. I thought since it was 17.5 class to keep as light as possible. And if I added weight I didnt know what the point would be to use a shorty.
