You guys following the Cactus right now? Tebo, Evans, and Jorn all trying mid motor cars because the grip is so high. CRAZY TALK I TELL YOU!

they mixed sugar in with the dirt. I have heard its like racing on sandpaper.

I haven't run outside in over 10 years but they used to use coke syrup here and it was awesome. The track would get black groove on it....traction was sick. We didn't have the tire technology back then though. It was either Square Fuzzies, Super Squares, X-2000's, or Taperpins and if you made it through an entire day on one set, you were lucky!

The last few years maifield has dominated the CC. This year, them mix in sugar and the convertible cars are going mid motor. They still might end up rear motor, but "if" SRS designed the track to "assist" the mid motor cars, I would find that kinda weak. But since Ryan M is from Phx, I assume they would not do that...

Bob Barry 03-14-2013 07:01 AM

I seriously doubt anyone designed a track to assist mid motor cars haha. From what I saw, Tebo threw it down to try it, it looked good. Racing has always been copycat. This is nothing new :)

All they did was add sugar to the surface. It helps a ton. We has a track here that did it one time and it was insa e traction. It did eat the hell out of tires tho.

Tradin Paint 03-14-2013 07:30 AM

For the AZ States race they tried grape soda on the track. Traction was awesome but tires were 1 run and done. It's great traction but an expensive way to do it, especially for a "privateer".

Figuring setup and tire combination is one of the best parts about this hobby. This supertraction format is like cheating to me

Wildcat1971 03-14-2013 07:37 AM

+1 to insta cheater traction. I was watching the 91 worlds on youtube, ah the days of actually dirt racing. At least the 1/8 gas worlds was a blownout filthy track, lol.

I believe they are also trying to achieve a surface that stays consistent and doesn't totally blow the hell out!! With 500 entries... Think of what that would do to any track!

I agree though, the tire bill is gonna be hell!! Plus you'll need different compounds depending on if you run in the heat of the day or night.

Tire bill isn't as crazy as you may think though. I mean if you go nuts on practice, sure.

But even if you had to put 'new tires' every run... That's what, 7 runs max IF you made the A's. And if you made the A's, one would assume you have sponsor help for tires anyway :D.

And trust me, it's no different now than to do it like we did back then. Buy 7 pairs of tires or 4 batteries, 2 or 3 motors, AND 4 sets of tires.

Wildcat1971 03-14-2013 09:30 AM

I would like to see the track change during the heats. That is the way I race, lol. Different tires and minor setup changes for each round..... And if the wind blows, the track changes even more. Lol, we should just race carpet or astroturf, lol.
