Just curious and this may be a stupid question.. (Now that that's out of the way) Do you think not having any diff fluid in any of your diffs could cause heat issues on your motor and esc? I just replaced tore down the truck and my current set up is 7f/7c/5r and I moved over to a 17/44 steel spur setup, and I'm thinking about raising my current up to 50-60 in comparison to the 35%.. Any thoughts? or is everything I just said unrelated?

@XRated thanks a lot, I figured that they were unrelated, but if diff fluids and resistance in regards to your electronics actually went hand in hand it would have meant that my temps were actually in the 130s and not the 150s meaning If I do increase my current then I wouldnt have to worry about temps.. Well maybe my driving will b better now that all three diffs actually have fluid in them lol!

Current limit is a setting that can hurt you if set too high IMO. If you cant be at a dead stop and go full throttle and not lose traction then you have it set too high and are just building extra heat and running slower lap times. Unless you are noticing that other trucks on the track are accelerating faster than you are then you should be fine. That said, 35% is rather low. I am running 60% in my SCT410 but I am on a sugared track, if you are having temp issues with a 4 pole (I assume a pro 4?) make sure you take all the timing out of the ESC then start adding CL until you are happy with the temps. |
If you run your diffd dry, you will ruin them. The gears get pretty hot in there. Eventually they will melt the plastic inside and all become locked, then your motor temps will go up.
30-40% current limiter is about right for a Pro4HD moto, the regular Pro 4 seems between 70-80%. |
Hey thanks guys.. I just took her out for about 10 minutes just doing speed passes, after every fourth pass I'd check temps. The steel spur sounds sick, esc never got hotter than 116 and the motor was no higher than 140 in GA heat with the sun beaming.. I can't wait to get her out on the track I think it's gonna be like night and day.. Do you guys run motor fans on your pro4HD? If so any suggestions or not needed?i know everyone hates integy, but didn't think it'd matter dealing with a simple motor mount and fan, and there's castle as well just not a fan of zip ties under the hood..

If you need a fan to keep something in your car cool, you have something wrong.

Could a castle 4-pole 3800kv 540 (CC Sct sidewinder) get this truck around the track?
|
The motor is good for a smaller track. The CC esc sucks tho. Get a Tekin or a Viper.

Hobbywing.....................SCTPRO

I second the HW SCT Pro! No screwing around with current limits and wondering which servo needs a BEC. And those are just top of mind points.
|
Actually even the HW 120 V3.1 is killer in this truck!

Just took my SCT 410 out for the first time. The only problem I was having was the motor was running hot. I have a Tekin RX 8 and a Tekin 4600 motor with a 15T pinion. Forgot my temp gun but after 5 min of run time I could feel it was running to hot. A buddy of mine is running the same set up with no issues. Any suggestions?
