yes sir! coming from the hw 120A the rx8 was a revelation. With the exact same motor battery, way way more punch and way cooler temps on everything!

I went from the rx8 to hw120 sct pro and all i did was thermal 180-190 whole time.:flaming: It was smoother tho and had same power:eek:. But going back to rx8 130-140 with same gearing and no changes

Thought I'd throw up a pic of my truck with full clutch and mechanical brakes :)

That poor truck needs a real ESC, son!

Good looking loaded truck, though.

Sounds like someone runs nitro or has a vey aggressive trigger finger.:sneaky: I got no room to talk, my steering expo is negative 30 with a .15 servo in my eb48.

Antimullet 07-28-2013 02:42 PM

Nice, how do you like its handling traits with the clutch and servo in there? Do you notice cooler electronic temps since the brake duties are pushed over to the servo now?

Matthew_Armeni 07-28-2013 03:38 PM

The MMM is a great ESC to use with the clutch, no sensors needed :) I don't think I have an aggressive trigger finger, but the clutch really lays the power down smoothly, especially on rough tracks. The other thing I like about it is the amount of off power speed the car carries, this thing coasts forever. And with the mechanical brakes I can lower the motor temps and have the ability to adjust my brake bias, useful to me as I like a little more rear braking. The last thing, or reason I did this, was so that all my cars would feel the same at the nats. I'll be running truggy, buggy, and SC. Having the throttle and braking feel the same across the platforms will help me out when I switch between them. And I need all the help I can get as my driving ability is firmly in the "sportsman" category, lol.

Hey Armeni, how much would you say the clutch/rear servo setup lowered your motor temps?

In our buggies, we used to see anywhere from a 15 to 30 degree temperature difference and 10-20% increase in run time. I expect to see something similar in the SC truck.

Wow that's great, you have me interested. Do have to disable the motor braking or does the servo just assist and decrease the work load?

Best to use a radio that has brake mixing. I ran mech brakes on a Ve8 for a while and it def gave me cooler temps and longer runtimes. Guess when I get a RX8 Gen2 I'll see how braking is on amp drawing and maybe try the mech brakes to see the improvement from a statistical point too.

shock tower

OK my fellow Teknophiles, what is the consensus on replacement shock towers. I tweaked my rear tower today, and am looking to replace it. I have heard of people breaking the graphite Tekno. What about the other brands? Or should I just stick with the stock replacements?

Btw, still TQ'd and won the main. Love this truck!

There was a bit of discussion about Carbon towers about 5 pages back or so. General consensus was that the Team SR towers are the strongest of the carbon towers.

Matthew:
The R.O.A.R. rules say in SC you can not have mechanical brakes, so if you are going to run at the Nat`s. you may have to take them out.
