It isn't a matter of being mechanically inclined, but having an attention to detail. Take your time, read the manual carefully, remove the burrs from the parts tree pieces, make sure the screws are tight but no overly tight (tekno's plastic/polymer is very good quality), use GOOD tools (standard big store brand can turn to mush in a short time), metal to metal is locktite 99% of the time, etc. It will pay off in the long run.

People rush and you end up with turnbuckles that aren't set correctly (don't match direction), left/right side of the kits not setup the same, etc.

That for me was the perfect explanation.

For removing the burrs off the parts tree pieces what is recommended? Sandpaper? Fine file?

I ordered some Turnigy tools for the build.

one tip I would suggest when you do your build is to spread it out over a couple of days, in general I liked to do the fluid based builds first, say shocks and diffs, then move onto the chassis builds.

The first time I built one, I took 3 or 4 evenings of a few hours each evening. The second time I probably took 5 or so hours total.

For removing burs, just a hobby knife or box cutting razor will do fine in all but 1 place (and can be ok there if you're really good with the knife and fine detail) which is the edge of the shock pistons. For those I suggest sandpaper.

Turnigy tools aren't great, but everything on the truck is 2 or 2.5mm for the most part, which is large enough that even those tools should be ok. Just be careful with the 2.0 when the driver starts to wear later in life.

if you get turnigy nut drivers, check the part where the set screw goes. I don't think they flat spotted the shaft so the sit screw is sitting on a curved surfaced. the one I used for the wheels started turning on me so I had to take it out and dremel it to flat spot it. Other than that though they have worked fine.

Agreed, a good sharp exacto blade typically is one of the best (does not leave a roughed up edge where sand paper or files can).

Thanks for the great tips.

+1 after you do one Tekno kit you can knock it out in about 6-8 hours straight keeping a good steady pace, but more fun to take your time and enjoy it. Really get a feel for how it goes together for when you need to make quick adjustments.

Its the EB48 you see sitting across in the pic, it was fine. The geometry of the impact really put all the load into my car.

Looks like my original post was deleted? wtf.
