Aluminum Screws

Speaking of aluminum screws. Is the AE aluminum screw kit upgrade for the B44.2 worth while? Or not gonna make much difference + may loose some structural integrity? I see some of you guys are trying to add a bit more weight to the car (i.e., Avid chasis or ballasts), so that's why i'm asking if aluminum screws make sense. Thanks.

Gary

Stainless is only marginally stronger than 7075 aluminum. I tried 7075 aluminum in my b4. The only ones I didn't have an issue with were the 3 in the rear of the top plate, 8 of the 10 in the tranny case (didn't put them in the bottom because of concerns about bottoming), & the 2 bottom front shock mounts (plastic on both side of the screw in the b4 arms). The hinge pin set screws, shock top & bottom screws, shock towers (front & rear), & the wing mounts ranged from bad to a complete waste of time. I'm not sure I would put aluminum anywhere on the b44 other than where it comes stock due to durability.

I would recommend titanium (if you can afford it or if your paycheck depends on winning races), or a574 alloy steel (gr 12.9 for metric). A574 alloy steel screws can be gotten in kits from hexcrewz.com &, tonysscrews.com, or amainhobbies.com for individual screws.

p.s. if you need a screw kit for a b4 or t4 I have a few left, message me.

Quick question... I got the blue alum front shock tower mount for the 44.2...which way is it supposed to go? One way will make the tower lean back a bit, and the other way flat up and down... thanks.

it goes with the flat side down, the tilted side goes against the back of the shock tower.

Anyone running an 8.5? I run indoor here in Las Vegas and it seems like 6.5 or 7.5 would be overkill.. I'm using LRP Flow Works Team and Reedy Sonic Mach 2 8.5...

All the setups I see have either 5.5 6.5 or 7.5... Would a 22T pinion be a good starting point? With the 81T spur...

AE surely doesn't supply 7075 alloy with screws? That couldn't be cost effective

I am running an 8,5 with 22/81, it is not very fast, and I am not by any means a "fast" guy.... I have not tried w timing/boost yet, but still I would recommend a 6,5...

As a reference I am running 10,5 in my B4 and feel is is quite adequate...

The b44 comes with 12 blue aluminum screw for the dif cases. I assume they are 7075 because 6061 is substantially weaker & not much cheaper.

i used to run an 8.5 before i got better most pros run a 6.5 if you good a 5.5 i would say a 6.5 first to get used to it. Go to SMC they have great motors for only 50$

I'm running an 8.5, I've gone up to a 22 pinion with the 81 spur due to motor temps. Might go to 23.

Anyone here running the Durango diff conversion from Bugle Boy? The rear CVD's fit in the drive cups fine but the right front it's way to far out. I've added a shim to the CVD, an extra shock limiter to reduce droop and verified I have the shock rod end cranked tight. It's still to close to the end and popped out during a practice run today.
