Overgeared vs. Undergeared - Thermaled ESC
#46
I remember for brush motors overgeared meant hot motor, cool ESC, cool battery(can be hot) and if you gear it even higher your ESC can get hot. Undergeared was hot battery, hot ESC and cool motor. IDK how it applies to brushless setups. Being too undergeared on a brushless can heat them up quick.

Try going up 2-3 teeth on your pinion. Drive it for couple minutes and check your temps. Having a higher top speed will also help settle your trigger finger down, forcing you to be easier on the throttle. This should move the heat from your esc to your motor.
I've always gone by the rules:
Hot esc = pinion is too small
Hot motor = pinion is too large.

Hot esc = pinion is too small
Hot motor = pinion is too large.
