It seems like using light blue Kyosho spring front and rear is THE setup for any 1/8 scale these days. Kyosho and Associated uses them. I've seen Mugen and Xray use them. I own a few K cars and have all the springs, so I figure I would do some testing.
I did my testing at Revelation Raceway, a large 1/8 track with 200 ft straight, huge jumps, fast but technical, hardpacked with a loose loamy/sandy top layer.
First off, by feel alone, the light blue springs are significantly stiffer than stock springs. I did not like the feel of them front AND rear. Suspension was too stiff. It didn't handle the rough bumpy surface that well, and the rear end was a little unpredictable. I did like the blue spring up front. A stiffer spring up front felt great, but I ended up going back to stock rear spring. The stock rear spring drove the same as a Kyosho orange spring. The two feel almost identical.
So in the end, my fastest lap times came from changing the stock front spring to something stiffer (in this case, a Kyosho light blue front spring), and keeping the rear end stock (or can use Kyosho orange springs).

I just got back from the track now. The car is ready for the big state series race next weekend. I went with serpent blue front spring and yellow rear. I am running a different setup now as I feel it is much better for the new track layout. It still has big jumps but its much more flowing and fast. There are a lot of switchbacks so I went with short camber links. I will put together a new setup sheet after this race. Should be close to 60 e buggies.

Team Epic Revtech 4s 6500mah 70c Battery is orange hard case. Only 110 at Absolute Hobbyz. I have the double deuce for the b4.1 and its awesome. Real punchy. I just bought one for the eb48

Chris,
Does it seem to hit an equilibrium at 150 with that gearing, or if you ran an extra 5 minutes would it come off even hotter?
With my skill level, I often prefer to give up a little speed/power to have slightly lower temps, such that I can run and run without worrying about burning up a motor (also goes back to my cheapskate nature, I hate burning up components/breaking parts). Speaking mostly to practice sessions. During a race I will probably use your gearing either way.

Are you running the radiopost blue for steering in the eb48? Do you think it has enough torque for the application? I will have one for steering too.

I've been playing with balance too. Right now I'm runing a Castle mmp esc with a Tekin 2050 motor with a Gen Ace 4000mah 60c 4c pack. I can get around 14 to 15 min on a track that has a 170' front straight. That pack weighs 473 grams and it's a soft pack which works fine for most club racing. Right now the price of that soft pack is $59.31. If I need a R.O.A.R. pack I use the Gen Ace 40c 5000mah hark pack that weighs 562 grams that're right at $56.75 right now. I ran my new eb48 and both my v4 d8 and my v4 d8t at our home track today that's 130'x90' and had a blast today. It would be nice to go to the track we race on but it's a 120 miles south of my home. I really like the way my eb fly's but I still can't get it to hook up as good as my v4. At our last race of the season I got creamed, came in dead last. I averaged about 2 seconds per lap slower than my v4-d8. The races b4 that I had awesome finishes. Our track can be rough so the light weight of the eb is a handicap at times.
