Could I be allowed to put in a good word for Novak's American-manufactured electronics? We make our BL, sensored controllers and motors here in our Irvine factory, employing American workers. Therefore, we can't offer the cheapest electronics, but we do offer fast support for our customers and have a full customer service and tech support team. We attend races and are always here to help.
We have been in business over 33 years and designed the first MOSFET-based electronic ESC as well as the first sensored BL motor and esc for ROAR-type racing. Many of the advances in both BL motor and ESC technology have originated with Novak's design team. (If we didn't innovate, they couldn't duplicate.) We offer comprehensive, and unmatched, Trade-In and Legacy Lifetime programs so that our customers can always trade in old Novak items for our newest products at a considerable discount. In addition, we design our electronics to be mostly user-repairable, or completely re-buildable, and distribute a huge selection of after-market service items and repair parts---and make sure they are always available. We maintain a factory-RMF store, where most of our current items are priced at a steep discount and come with a new factory warranty. We also designed a complete line of affordable, sensored combos, unmatched in price, or features, by any other American manufacturer. These are some of the points that we would like you to consider when making Your new electronics purchase. I would like to see novak however offer an unmatched warranty program. this is one area that novak is lacking. Castle Creations for example offers 1 full year, novak 120 days. To me, as someone who has enjoyed your products, i believe the quality of the product you have should be backed up by a worthy warranty length. And to even go further, lead the industry in warranty length, not just match it. |
Great thread. I too love the stuff they sell at HK. I have been using their $39 200A marine ESCs, XK 40mm series motors, Turnigy LiPo packs, HK 120A car ESC, 5A BECs, and even their 450 T-Rex clones are top notch!
I dont think it comes down to who makes what or a better product. It comes down to who makes and sells equipment that can keep me in the hobby during this down economy. I would love to be able to support all the "local" manufacturers such as Neu Motors, Novak, Tekin, and CC but the economy doesn't allow me that luxury any more. Until our government does what they need to do to bring our economy to what it was before these 2 senseless and useless wars, I will continue to buy used equipment or from over seas. I know this adds to the down economy but I'm not in government, I don't own a large company who choses to outsource labor leaving us with no jobs, so therefore I have no other option if I still want to enjoy my hobby. |

Anything that survives the racing environment for 120 days would not be considered factory-defective. We could easily change our warranty to one year, but customer-caused damage would still not be covered. In fact, if you compare mfgs' written warranties, you will see that they are almost the same----most were just based on our original wording from @30 years ago....;) Manufacturers cover factory defects (things over which we have control) but do not cover customer damage (things over which we have no control). |

Hope you dont think this is a bash thread, I didnt start it to be one. I have used Novak for almost 30 years...since 83 or 84. I still think I have an old burshed esc from then. I still got a GTB and HV 5.5 and both work great and just sold a balistic 13.5. Never had any issues with Novak but like Losifiend said the economy has made us look elsewhere to aford to play in our hobby. Glad to know that you make the stuff here:D....maybe you can answer a question I have had. posted before about the china HK 100a esc http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...ESC_1_10_.html being in the same case as the GTB. i know the gtb is an older esc....How did china get it. I know the internals are not the same, but it does work good. I am thinking about trading in my GTB for a havoc pro |
One likely scenario:
China company bought the product retail. Dissassembled it and cloned it. And in general If the item is made in china it may even be the same factory that produces the same product. As for that ESC in question: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...g/17233(1).jpg looks like a clone of the Speed passion cirtix ESC: http://www.speedpassion.net/uploadfi...-12280-r11.jpg If it is, the clone costs as much as the speed passion one. And after seeing what happened to a buddy of mines 2 Hobbyking ESCs, your better off avoiding that brand at least. |

You can exchange your old GTB for our new Havoc Pro SC with X-Drive. |

With that in mind, I have found it hard to use other manufacturers products that have shorter warranty periods, even if I like the product (ala novak havoc, Tekin RX8). Since it is easy to change the warranty to match the other industry leaders out there in the warranty department as you have said, can we expect novak to do this by offering an industry leading (not just matching) warranty? |

It is a programming box thing but you do need winblows to get the SW onto the box. Use parallels or VMware with a copy of winblows for times like these.
As an update, I have spoken to a few people, and the guys I will be running with are loving their Orion stuff. Hopefully i can find something that won't leave me skimping on things like servo. I want to run the same as them as technical help will be on hand. Speaking of servos... I know it goes off topic, but anyone has a good place to look, do tell! |

I really do like this about Novak. Although, I am looking to trade my kinetic in for a HP/SCX and there doesn't seem to be an upgrade path for that or I am just reading the sheet wrong.
