Is the most recent firmware on this link what I want?
http://www.speedpassion.net/en/download.asp?page=1
Do I need the SP programmer or will the yellow one work?

I can't get it to communicate with the SP or the provided software. Does it need to be powered externally or will the USB power it (Like a tekin does)
I've programmed tekin and castle ESCs no problem, I don't understand why I'm having issues. (Unless the ESC is D.O.A.)

open hobbywing control software
plug in speedo to usb adapter
plug usb adapter into the computer
turn speed control on.
the green indicator will show on the lower left that the speed control is detected and you are ready to program the speedo..it will then take a second and auto detect which firmware is on the speedo and the current default settings.

Hey Guys,
I'd appreciate some suggestions. I have three builds I'm putting together and I need motor, esc and servo for each. I'd like to go all HobbyPartz or HobbyKing.
1. Hot Bodies D8T - Electric conversion. Which motor/Esc/Servo?
2. Jammin CRT.5 - Electric conversion on "pro" conversion chassis (allows for full size servo's)
3. TLR 22 Truck -Which motor/ESC/Servo?
Thank you very much for your time and suggestions.

I figured it out. I needs to be switched "on" and have a battery supplying power. It' not USB powered like other stuff I've used.
Edit: I see you posted the answer while I was figuring it out. These PDF instruction manuals aren't the best.
the link I provided for the SP software works fine. The USB is identified as a hobbywing.
Neat.
I got a brand new 8.5 motor. Anyone want to trade it for a 17.5? I ordered it a month ago when I had a car I wanted an 8.5 in. Now that truck is long gone.

I do want to say that I found the weak link in the "yellow" hobbywing system that will probally cause problems for those who are not very experienced...The solder in the motors is not very good.I was playing with the stock super charged software at home this week and Got the motor aound the 150* mark and it quit working .I tore it down and found that one of the stator coil winds had come unsolderd from the common loop on the output shaft end of the stator. They used standard 60/40 solder..so I did a re-build removing the 60/40 and re-soldering all the stator terminations with silver solder which has a MUCH higher meltng point than standard 60/40 solder..problem fixed.. tested it by getting the motor back up to 150 with no iissues..But running in blinky at the track my motor never gets over 110, so you know I had no issues with it last night.I do want to add that I am not sure whether it was due to the 60/40 solder or just a bad solder joint that caused the failure, but since i had it tore down that far it took an extra 10 minutes to fix it right so I knew the issue wouldnt re-occur.Still an excellent bargain for what I paid for it,and i really dont even mind the re-solder at that price.

even if they arent and are just a straight forward sensored speedo at that price as long as the durability is there its still a good deal!!BTW the motors are the same design as the one included with the yellow hobbywing...so the pricing is a little out on those when they can be had for 35.00.But really interested in the speedo..
