If you are looking for cheap systems, I dont know why anyone wouldn't get anything but a Novak. I know some people have problems with their stuff but I have never had a esc or motor fail from them and I have been using their stuff for 8 years. I am running a GTB2 with a Tekin Pro4 4000kv motor right now with not a single problem and it is coming off the track at 95f in a SCTE. In my opinion, they have the best customer support bar none.

Cause there 1/8th scale stuff doesn't have a good following and you never hear anyone talking good about it.

Novak makes good stuff for sure.I have supported them for over 20 years.my first novak speedo was a T-4.In all honesty I would be buying Novak if my budget allowed for it.The budget simply does not allow it now days..I support the race budget of 3 people now.Myself,my 15 yr old, and my 6 year old..so $169.00 (cost of a GTB2/motor combo)a system is not an option for us right now...That would cost us $500.00 to out fit 3 rigs with power systems..I did it for less than $175.00 using hobbywing/Tacon gear..For the 500.00 it would cost for me to outfit our stuff with novak gear I could buy 6 of the yellow hobbywing speedo and motor combos...6 of them..we have 1 35a hobbywing that is 2 years old and has never given us any issues..that speedo cost me $40.00 2 years ago..If it died tomorrow it would cost me all of $27.00 to replace it...It would almost cost that just in postage to send a speedo in for service..without this cheap gear the 3 of us simply would NOT be racing at this point in time.We just couldnt afford it.Thats 3 less entry fees for the local track owner, 3 less people buying parts when they need them at the onsite hobby shop,3 less people buying tires when they need them, 3 less people buying bodies as they need replaced, you see where I am going..I dont beleive this thread is here to debate what is superior, or not, but to let people know that there ARE cheap alternatives that are very competitive and reliable on the race track.Times are tough, Money is tight so if bringing these low budget systems to light helps bring new people to the racing scene, or helps KEEP guys who have been racing on the track then thats a good thing right??In my role as tech director at the track I deal with newbs on budgets and kids being brought by their moms/dads.When they start pricing out what its going to cost them to upgrade their RTR's to something competitive on the track or legal for a certain class they get some severe sticker shock when they look at name brand power systems, and lipos, and radios, etc.

If you use the search i beleive there is a thread on here for the venom brushless gear..I have a couple race buddies that were running their stuff and they had no issues with it..Since they have discontinued that line I assume these are the leftovers and when they are gone...they are gone..Tower only has the 9.5 turn motor left and they are asking $75.. so yeah $35.00 is a killer deal!!

any recommendations for an scte? Not sure if how important it is to have a sensored system. I run an sc10 with a non sensored HW 60A/tacon motor combo and its pretty fun. only problem is it gets significantly warmer then other people who are running higher end equipment. other than that it keeps on going and hasnt caused me any problems.

Thanks,

I thought Toro only made mini scale systems?? Have a link??..for 4wd like the SCTE something like this would be what you need.
http://www.nitrorcx.com/07e-combo-sc-b.html

Its built for the 4wd sct's..4 pole 550 can motor= torque!!

Thanks,
which Tacon motor are you running?..if its getting warm i assume you are running one of the finned can tacons..if so , those run warm because they are NOT true 540 can motors..they are a 380 size rotor and stator coil, thats why they run hot..
