ROAR blinky rule for 2012?
#1
Hey, I apologize in advance if this is a dumb question but is it true that ROAR rules will change to only blinky for the stock class nation wide so there will be a bigger division between stock and mod? Thanks and any info would be appreciated!!

I believe this is correct, all the "Stock" classes at Motorama this year are going to be blinky only.
I LOVE the idea, you can get a cheap ESC and Motor from Novak for around $150 I think, and be competitive. Its good for beginners, and will probably bring more people into the "National" Level, maybe keep some of the "Hot Shoes" out of the Stock classes.

To help support this change, and reduce fears of cheating, we are releasing a new software for the Tekin RS and RSpro esc’s with a spec mode lock. Users will not be able to take the unit out of spec mode or put it in spec mode without connecting it to the Hotwire. The obnoxious flashing leds make it easy to see that the unit is in the approved Spec Mode and it cannot be changed without considerable effort.
We made a few other changes people will like as well

if i'm reading this correctly, the only way to use your products in a stock class will be purchasing the hotwire..
thats not helping the industry, thats helping your pockets.. what benefit would it be to have to use the hotwire opposed to using a button?? if the LED is flashing then its there. most tracks have a marshal or director check the cars as they're laid on track now anyways, and if they don't they should

I race for Castle and help Tekin guys out all the time. I have both softwares and willing to help anyone who asks. I can't imagine I'm the only guy at a track that would help people. Most racers are easily willing to help out another racer so I can't see where Tekin is trying to make money.
The reason for the Hotwire and or Castle Link is make it sure you don't have to buy a new speedo every week to keep up. You purchase one and simply update it. I update easily pays for the cheap price of the link, hell they are giving away FREE Software with every update so I can't see how any of these companies with adjustable speedos are trying to take advantage of a customer.

If you don't want to buy a Hotwire I can't imagine that your local hobbyshop or a racer at your track wouldn't help you out.

See that little light flashing on me ESC ?
It means I'm not cheating , Ha !
O-really now ?
This rule make the stock class a bigger joke then ever , spec is so hard to tech these days , they should just give up ....

Ouch! I guess you cannot please everyone.
You do not buy Tekin because we continually update and improve our products as the market changes, and give those updates to our loyal customers for free?
212 will still be legal and have a spec mode that can be accessed without the hotwire. The flashing leds are different so you can tell the difference. In most cases where cheating is not as big of a concern both should be accepted. At major races where they want to be sure and there are plenty of hotwires everywhere the new version offers some advantages for the organizers.
It’s a choice, not a requirement or capitalist conspiracy to take your money. It was asked for by some of the major race organizers. We listened and gave them what they asked for. I am sorry you do not see it that way.

and the equipment i run now is no less equipped for the winners circle and came with the programmer and is cheaper than your flagship ESC w/o the hotwire.
now i will not hold cost against you, there are some unique features to your product that definately will attract a strong consumer base (like you guys have) but as the market shifts and products are cheaper and have the same capabilities but come with more value in the box (programmer).
thats great the 212ver. will be available, however, for how long? i would guess the point is to require the hotwire for everything other than the basic profiles. (not a bad idea, but expensive)

i will agree you can't plz everyone, but now most ESC companies provide updates. so thats not really a selling point anymore..
