What are you running for motor, ESC, battery, and gearing?

The graphite one has a lighter tint to it.

1) Will going a smaller hole piston with lighter oil increase the pack?

2) Does going up on the oil weightage and not changing my piston size achieve the same results?

Thanks guys
I would go smaller hole with the same oil. Also, you can build the shocks with more rebound (less oil bled out.) That should give more pack and slow the action down.

Are you getting chassis slap because you're over shooting the landings or is there just no or little landing ramp on these big jumps?

There is also a significant weight difference between the two.

Yes they are, so then you will just have to add more lead.

Dosen't maintaining the same oil also cause an increase in damping if the hole were smaller? I would like to maintain the same damp rate but increase the pack.

There's no landing ramp... hence the huge height drop...

Yes, but that's the way I've always tested that adjustment. Start with the smaller pistons and same oil, then if you feel like it needs a lighter dampening, go to a lighter oil. The problem is there's no exact number for how much each piston size changes the dampening. So it's more of a feel thing.

If you change to a smaller piston size then you should go down in oil weight. If you don't, you will have heavier damping but the bigger effect will be slower rebound damping which will dramatically change the handling of your car. A way to drop oil weight/piston hole size to keep roughly the same static feel is to take both shocks off (front or rear) and change one shock over to the new piston. You can then guess at what oil to use, put the spring back on and compare how fast/slow the rebound is compared to the previous setup. Once you're close (probably 5wt lower) you can change over the other one and give it a try, the smaller hole/lighter oil should still resist bottoming a little better but it may also lose grip a little on small bumps if they are sharp. Odds are, if this is a big dropoff that the car bottoms really hard on you will never be able to get the car to land a lot better without seriously changing the rest of the car's handling characteristics so it may not be worth it to tune the car to handle one jump if it slows you down elsewhere on the track.

Power sounds like the issue but first I would try playing with the gearing. If that doesn't work go to an 8.5 or 7.5 and that should do the trick.

Check your gearing, you're probably geared too low. Run a 24-26/78, you'll be surprised how hard a 10.5 pulls a tall gear. Undergeared, higher turn brushless motors lose bottom end for some reason. They like load.

Default 8.5 gearing

is a fdr of 8 reasonably ok for a 8.5 BL?

just looked up the novak brushless gearing chart, but they are generally very conservative.

What ratio are you guys running, on novak 8.5's?
