Sorry if it's been covered but i can't seem to find my answer. I am totally new to electric,so please bare with me. I just ordered a losi scte and wonder which would be better for an outdoor track with lap times in the upper 30 second range, the 4000kv or 4600kv? Mains are 10-12 mins. long. Also what is the difference in power and run time between the 2? Thanks for any help you can give.

I have tekin 4k with sc10 4x4 geared 15 pinion.
i run my truck both medium size indoor clay and med-large outdoor.
both i get 170~180 motor and 130~140 esc temp after 10mins run.
I feel like i need little more top end at out door...i should've went with 4.6k...
anyways, i would like to drop little more temps down for my motor.
using 60c lipos and can't put a fan to sc4x4. should i go up or down for a pinion?

Both have more than enough power. Runtine could be an issue depending on your throttle finger. I run the 4600 and only get 7 1/2 minutes with a 5000 pack. It would be hard for me to make much more than 10 minutes with a 6000 pack. For 12 minutes you might need the 4000 and a 6000+ pack.

Wow, this motor eats up the mah pretty quickly. I have a 4600 in my scte, but have yet to run it on my track. I have Thunderpower 2s 50c 5200mah batteries, and was wondering if "C" ratings influence the rate at which the capacity is diminished during a run? Other ways to increase run time besides going easier on the throttle (current limiter? gearing?).
I was on HK today wanting to buy new batteries and some some like 65-130C 6000mAh and was bout to pull the trigger, then thought maybe I dont need that much. Also thought maybe having that much will be a hindrance in some way? Maybe 30-60C or 50-100C etc. is better to go. I have no idea.

you need atleast a 60c pack for 4x4 corr imo
and i ran 10 mins on 5100 the last time i ran

The c rating of a battery dose not influence power draw the motor and esc do. Go with the best batteries you can afford.

I have 2 40c 5000 mah batteries already. Sounds like the 4000kv will get more run time. Correct?? Or would the 4600 because i won't have to be as hard on the throttle. I have been racing nitro for about 3 years and get better run time than most so i wouldn't say i'm very hard on throttle. Talked to 2 locals one says get the 4600 and the other says go 4000, so i'm kinda confused LOL. I'm thinking i may get the 4000 and see how it goes.

Take Randy's suggestion 30c and up. Besides, most of the manufacturers are probably outright falsifying the c ratings. There are no standards of measurement in the industry just like the strength of fishing lines. If no one is establishing a standard of measurement, then the vendors can keep one upping each other and have the hobbyist think they are getting something better.

I was not saying anything about what batteries are best. Just that the motor and esc are what pull the power from the battery and yes there are a lot of overrated batteries on the market. But you do need a better than average battery for theses motors.

I just swapped out my CC 1410 for the Pro4 4600. What a difference but is it me or are these things a bit loud? At first I compared the two by turning the rotors and the CC had alot more resistance so I was'nt to sure. But once I hit the throttle it was a whole new ball game.

I have 2 5000MHA Venom lipo's, one 25c and the other 30c, that I consistantly get 12 minutes of run time with, using RX8 and SCX4.5 motor. I dont run any current limit, the #3 throttle profile, Zero drag brake and fairly weak regular break. Gearing was 62/12 but needed some more speed and put in a 13, then needed a little more and put some timing in it and she scooted. When im finished at 12 minutes the battery voltage is about 6.3VDC. Still safely above the cut off.
Just out of curiosity, are we maybe talking about putting a bandaid on, or solving a problem of run times. I am getting back into electric after about 10 years of sniffing nitro, but back in the 90's it was all about efficiency. Hard wiring you motor and batteries was one of the ways to squeeze just a little more out of those 3400MAH NiMh batteries.
today is a lot easier. Good hi current connectors play a big part but dont forget the servo. That can be a huge drain on a battery. A lot of people have jumped on the Savox wagon, about how powerfull and fast they are for the money. But I ran mine for about 2 packs and found it drained my packs .6 to .8 of a volt more than the compairable Hitech I had after 8 minutes of running. This was back to back only taking a break to swap batteries and then the servo the second time. Not bashing Savox here. I just didnt like it personally.
So my point is, dont focus on one part but the whole system.

Go ahead and pull that trigger! They are a great pack! I have 4 of them and they rock! I ran for about 12 minutes one day and the pack took 5300mah during the charge... Yes the 4wd sct really suck the battery down so you need BOTH the mah and the "C"... Get the best pack you can afford, but for $42 each the Nanotech's are great!

I wanted the 600mah 65-130c, but I will get more of those the next time I see them IN STOCK. So now I'll have these new 3 and then 3 of the standard turnigy 30-40c 5200mah's. shuold be enuf for now.
Was thinking it'd be nice to have my Airtronics MT-4 on LiPo, but not sure waht fits, so for now it'll be AA's

It has been my experience with over 40 packs of lipos to date that packs with a higher C rating will offer the same amount of punch throughout the cycle unlike lower C packs.
I use TP G6 65c for racing at the moment and never feel a difference when it is fully charged till just about 3.75v per cell and then I feel a noticeable difference but still PLENTY of power unlike my 50C, 40C, 35C, 25C or 22C when I have tested the power further along the cycle to 3.2v per cell.
I have only ever owned TP, Enerland, Hyperion, SMC.
