Do you typically run thinner diff fluid for rough medium traction tracks? What a good starting place?

If your running the v2 diff gears we typically start with 10,15,10 and tune from there if needed.

Well, summer is here and that means my motor temps are sky high.. I am running a Tekin 1900 gen 2 combo geared 17/46.I feel like my top end is not excessive, and this gearing works for the rest of the year except the summer. I just rebuilt the buggy so I do not think there is any excess drag anywhere. At practice today I was running the buggy fairly hard, but after an 8 minute run my motor would be 180ish. On a 10 minute run my motor hit 208. Around here we run 10 minute mains, so I need to get those temps down. I was thinking of dropping to a 16 tooth pinion, but I am not sure if that will make enough of a difference. Any other suggestions? My ESC setting are fairly mild as well.

How big is the track? 17/46 with a 1900 is a little high gearing. 16/46 is plenty of gear for all but the biggest tracks. Also make sure your ESC is not adding any timing, that will make the motor hotter as well. Did you open any holes in the body to let air into the motor? What is your current limiting set at? Turn it down until you can feel that you have to really be more aggressive on the throttle to clear the biggest jumps, then turn it back up a little. There's usually no need to ever have the current limiting set above 80. I've had mine turned down as far as 35-40 and didn't notice a big difference in being able to clear jumps.

Ok, I just ordered a 16 tooth pinion so I will try that this weekend. I will check my ESC settings. I think my timing is set to no more than 10 degrees. I believe my current limiter is somewhere around 85, so I will turn that down a little also. The body I was using did have a vent hole over the motor. I am going to clean up my buggy some and check the bearings this week. I will mess with the current limiter more when I practice on Friday.

Motor

Man, that's not what I wanted to hear. I'm currently running a 2050 with 16/46 and I'm about to switch to 1900 and was going to run a 17. Probably close to 90deg when we start racing here. If I go to a 16, my SCT top end is going to be faster than my buggy, at least by the calcs.

I copied the settings from Joe Bornhorst off the Tekin website, even though I'm running a 2050. His timing is set at 3 deg. I asked Tekin why they don't go any higher on timing and they said because 3 deg was plenty. I believe during the hottest part of the day, my motor comes off around 165.

Plastic Steering Links

Has anybody else had a problem with the plastic steering links closest to the wheel bowing downward? I just changed them out because of that and now they are bowed again.

IOP_Racer 06-15-2015 12:58 PM

Mine are bowed down a little, but I am not gonna worry about it. I am just going to replace them once they get sloppy.

Take the timing to 0. 10 deg timing is a LOT on a 4 pole motor, plus the gearing, it's no wonder it gets so hot.

Hey guy's, finally got delivery of my new 811be rtr 2.0!.
Must say i'm very pleased with it now that it has 2.0 diffs, 2.0 rear suspension and threaded shocks!
What was a good value rtr is now a great value rtr :)

I do have one question though, it has a 46t center spur and an 18t pinion. I was hoping to put a 16t on for the warmer months if needed.
Only issue is that the motor is just barely off the chassis now!
How are guy's fitting down to 15t pinions?
I know the kit chassis has milling work under where the motor sits but i cant see it allowing that much more room to move.

Just out of curiosity, how old is the motor? Might be time for a bearing or rotor refresh.

wilsonj1018 06-18-2015 09:57 AM

I just had to drop to a 15p with my 42s to keep temps under 160f was with hw esc and trackstar 2100kv motor. the summer temps and lack of airflow on a buggy are the biggest problems.

I am using the same set up. My motor is brand new and runs at the same temps. My motor runs at between 180-220 on a normal summer day. My esc settings are bone stock but with the added 7.4v on the bec and the 4s cut off.

The motor is probably about a year old, but does not have a ton of time on it. I have a gen 1 motor that just got new bearings and a new rotor, so if my gen 2 motor is still overheating I will try that motor to see if it makes a difference.
