Just bought a xxx-4g+ last week. Went through the whole car and did the double tower gig front and back, new long hardware. But one thing i did that i really like is that i put the xxx-sct rear alum hub carriers on it and the 22 rear threaded outer hinge pin. really modernizes the vehicle. Also i took most the limiters out of the front shocks for more front droop and dremeled out a lil cone in the arm to make the clearance. gotta say im dying to drive this bad boy!
thanks!

Good luck with the XXX-4. I find that it is a great car. Standard out of the box it can be fragile, depending on how you drive it and how often you make mistakes.
Doubling up the front tower really helps (i have not needed to double the rear). Aluminium inner pivots front and rear also help improve reliability of the car, although they are tough to get. They occasionally pop up on ebay.
I would suggest you re-build the slipper with new pucks and lock it down hard with locktite as mine used to have a habit of loostening itself during a heat.
The steering modification improves the car further in drivability.
For me i have found that the diff settings, both front and rear are a very good tuning tool for how the car turns in and exits the corners

The XXX-S pivots and the XXX-4 pivots are different.

Snaketaco... considering that this is an old design and parts are hard to find, I'd say it's NOT for a newb. I waited since I got into RC (a little over a year ago) for TLR to come out w/ a new 4wd 10th scale buggy... all I owned were Losi cars. As you can see if you read below, I went with another brand recently and couldn't be happier. I've had fits (as a newb) with less than adequate Losi instructions.... recently I was told by Horizon Hobby (Losi) support to research my Orion program box online to learn what the different parameters were and did. This is LAUGHABLE customer support, especially considering I'd just spent $1000 on 3 of their ESCs, motors and program boxes. In the same amount of keystrokes, the tech could've explained the few ambiguous parameters and what they do. And why not put this info in the manual??? BTW, still haven't gotten the info I need after several wasted hours looking online. The other brand I went with has numbered bags that match the numbered step in the manual: open bag 1, complete step 1, and onto bag 2.... NEWB-proof and was truly a pleasure to build.
I still love my Losi cars, but I don't think I'll buy another kit from them until their CS department realizes (and their instruction manuals reflect) that newbs ALSO buy their products.
EDIT: Just noticed that you're not a newb... maybe just meant you're new to 4wd 10th scale? Either way, I'd look elsewhere.
