Because I do know him. I used to race sedans twice a week at SoCal, it wasn't hard to be on a first name basis with everyone at the track. I'm not "in his autodialer" or Facebook friends with him, but I know him. What that has to do with anything, I have no idea.

There is a user who posts in this thread, who also happened to be pitted right next to him at the Short Course Shootout race in Texas. BK had a pin there, I have no idea what he runs anywhere else. Don't ask, I'm not going to out the user.

I don't know, I do know anytime I've ever seen him in the past 22 years he always had more motor than anyone else. Except in stock, where he was actually a little down on power.

Next time you see him, ask him whatever happened the special Bob's Big Boy trophy at the 1990 NORRCA nats. Or why he ran Brent Wallice's transmission at the 1993 Worlds.

That’s still 35% less KV than the 4.5. I was wrong on the combo, but right on the fact you are motored down.

Totally reasonable. On a blown out 1/8 scale track, I think the pin is helpful. On something smooth and higher bite, being without it might be better.

Cool. But why?

The RTR truck is going to come from the factory with a 4.5 in it. You seriously think AE is going to ship this turd as is? Every basher in America will be on a first name basis with Don @ tech complaining about melted spurs!

BTW, I am Facebook friends with Don. He beat me in a pavement oval points championship about a decade ago.

All that this has to do with anything is that it was a question. I only ask because I see his name thrown around more that 1 dollar bills at the strip club. That's all.

the pin setup sounds like a worthwhile mod but there were a few members here reporting breaking their idler gears.

Wild Cherry 11-25-2011 04:43 PM

Craig disagree with your theory only cus even with faster motors the slipper still performs great for me ..

Don't know why you can't drive the truck with the slipper .

Maybe you just did not adjust or had glaze pads ?
Maybe overheating everything with mass power ?

The motor I use is slower than most , but my lap times are not ....
I don't need more HP believe me .....

My temps are always under 130, ESC comes in even cooler than the motor....

I know how hot things can get with some of the motors available and have avoided them for efficiency instead...

I might buy the extra stuff and have one for next week when I go and race at comp.

Hey all I’m running JR Mitch’s Indoor, blue groove, high-traction, bumpy. At the end of our straight away we have a 90* turn that takes you to a triple. I have a hard time making it, on entry of the 90* turn my rear end wants to step out on me. What setup changes should I start trying? I went to the yellow rear springs and it felt that same. I was also wondering how I could get a little more on power steering?

thanks

Assuming you have the right tires for the track, if you are not running yellow springs in the front, you might try them with blue in the back. Taking grip from the front adds to the rear. You could add drag brake so that you do not over brake using your trigger finger. Using the over drive in the front will give you more pull coming out. Otherwise, try going outside, in, outside on the turn to wide the radius and help take away the abrupt side to side weight shift. Breaking earlier before the turn might help as well.

This is a little tricky, as a truck with a loose end is faster for some and causes issues for others, and you might end up tuning for one jump and slowing you down for the rest of the track. Good luck.

right now i'm running Front spring blue 35wt Rear Blue 30wt. Will going to a lighter oil help me out at all ?

I can drive it fine with the slipper and a basket. It's just not as fast as pinned with the track all rutted up. I think on a smooth track it would be slower with the pin.

Or maybe two pads isn't enough? It's not enough for the factory AE guys, here is (I think) Pudge's truck with multi part slipper at the Reedy race:

4.5 550 ballistic is mass power?

I'm not convinced I need less, but maybe. The truck was easier to drive with the 6.5 540, but thermaled in six minutes with enough gear to be racy with the Losi trucks at my local track. Maybe somewhere in between.

Mine is pretty close to there, maybe less, never hotter. With the stock two disc slipper it was so hot after seven minutes you couldn't touch the gear cover. And you could no longer double the same section you could triple early on.

After 10 minutes, my battery only takes about 1700 MAH. With the basket, that is.

I would try the yellow front and blue rear, easier to change than shock oil. Are you running sway bars? Are you running on clay?

I'm excited to race tomorrow at wcrc...I ended up going with a tekin 4600. I tested the difference between my d3 4.5 550 & the pro4 4600...the pro4 motor is slightly but noticeably faster. I think with either motor I will be happy .

lodhammerdin 11-25-2011 08:34 PM

Sounds like fun man. I can't wait to get my reedy sonic 4.5 550.

Dude, 4600 and the new chassis, I am going to have to seriously work on my driving to have a chance. I can't race tomorrow, hoping to race next Friday.
