About half way thru my build and I test fitted my Novak 550. It fits but just barely. I had to mod the chassis wall slightly for it to slip in.

Novak 550 hits the chassis when you try and install the motor.

Once in it fits but it is tight.

I had to grind a tiny bit of the chassis wall so the Novak motor would slip in easier.

For all who have built their trucks already. After you snap the front and rear clips into the center chassis section, how much gap is there between the chassis sections. I dont have the front section on yet cause I'm still need to pick up a servo but there is a small gap of 1mm or so between the front and rear chassis sections. Is that normal?

Yes, mine is that way also...no worries.

My first 4x4 also, ran it tonight for the first time and felt comfortable with it right away. I had the clicker unlocked and zero toe, trying to get it to drive like a 2wd. I'm not used to the braking power at all so I was not hitting the brakes hard like the other guys after the straight. When i did I'd spin out but I think i have a bad tire combo. Castle 3800/MM

I forgot to check all the factory shock piston screws, and of course one came out and the shock came apart.

Also lost the screw in my servo horn. That is gonna take awhile to fix.

Does anyone have a vid on the fastest way to pull the servo?

I keep reading here about the front diff fluids.
5K
7K
10K
60K

how can there be such a variety in diff fluids for everyone?

I seems logic that the differance is in small steps to everyones liking and setup/track conditions.

but the range from 5K to 60K for the front diff doesnt seem logic to me.

Ran mine at the track all day today, I'm very happy with the truck. As many have said the sway bars are definitely necessary and I'm still scratching my head as to why they didn't include them in the kit...

I ended up building a 2mm rear bar with some piano wire and some spare sway bar parts from my SCRT10. It made a world of difference!

Tomorrow I'll be doing some work on the limiting of the shocks as well as a some different oil combos and maybe some piston changes.

Right now I've got 5k in both diffs and I think it could definitely use something thicker, especially in the front. The book says that there's 30 in the front shocks and 25 in the rear... I have no clue what kind of oil that is but it's nothing like the Losi 30 - 25 I've got in there now. Whatever it was it resembled something similar to water.

As far as electronics go, I've been running a SXX TC V2 with an Orion 8.5 and it's great on power all the way around although I'll be adding a 6.5 when the new Orion motors are available. I've geared the 8.5 with 16 and 17 tooth pinions and after 8 min of HARD driving I couldn't get it any hotter than 140. After 15 minutes of hard driving the hottest I could get the motor was 160.

There's no question that the 540 motors work awesome in this truck. Personally I hate the way the 550 motors feel. I'll continue to keep running 540 motors for the life of the truck.

My only complaints is that I wish they would of made it a little easier to access the diffs since diff tuning is so crucial in any vehicle. Also the shocks leave a bit to be desired but all of my other cars are Kyosho's and nobody builds a shock as good as Kyosho.

This is hands down the best 4wd Sc truck in my opinion, they drive more like a big 4wd buggy than a SC truck.

All in all my hat's off to AE for building a REAL RACE truck, I can honestly say it was worth the wait. I'm more excited to see how good the truck can actually get because out of the box it runs damn good and there's still a ton of room for improvement.

Well, I finally got mine on the track last nite. Awesome handling truck. Absolutely no issues w anything yet...solid as a rock, and smooth as silk...love this belt design. So smooth...:-). But my RX8 hit 110...hotter than I am used too... What is everyone else hitting w RX 8? My 5.5 SC4x did great, only hit 135 w 13t. Truck turns amazing... My 5 year old drives a 2wd slash, and he was driving better than I'd ever seen him...lol. I dropped my ride height just below level on rear, and it felt much "tighter" I'n the corners. Definitely agree on sway bars, needs them for sure. Lot of body roll it seemed, bars should help. Cicker is coolest thing ive ran In a long time. Made the rear kick out like a 2wd and turned unbelievable. Ive ran a slash for 3 months w this setup, and no comparison...this truck feels glued to the track...not surprising....Will do more track testing today hopefully.

finally got mine built. had enuf time to make a couple trips down my street. I din't want to abuse my good tires so the track will come today.

already tell the differance between the sc10 and the slash I ran last year. just the few turns I made in my yard was awesome for a 4x4. can't wait

anybody get any spare parts? I have both front and read pully''s and a few screws left over. I went thru the manuel again and know I din't miss any screws.

Don't worry, just for you I will stay on my toes instead of relaxing on the forum. :spidey:

Heck, I'll be bolting a Novak 550 4.5t in my boy's Slash 4x4 tonight then, heh.

Your VXL should not run good with a ballistic motor, I heard the timing is to slow on the ESC for that motor. Then again I have not tried it so good luck.

Are you waiting for a 10R? I talked to Weylin at Viper about these and he said "10R's are on order right now and we should have more next week. There is a difficult production step we're working on improving but it's making things more time consuming".

So if Viper gets them next week, A-Main may not have them available until the week after.

I'm waiting on my 10R as well... actually, I told him to just wait until the Viper 550s are available to ship mine, so it looks like I'll have my truck build for a week or two before my electronics come in.
