I think it keys the bone to the axle and breaks if the bone is worn out. Our local dealer at the track doesnt have them so i want some cheap ones in reserve because you never really know when they will break.

Edit: some additional information: the original AE pin is 1.5mm thick and 12mm long.

See if you can get hold of some Piano Wire, Its very strong and you can get it it all differant thinknesses...

Can someone elaborat on the cut out belt tunnels. Mine are bent a little and I would love to understand what can be done to eliminate the distortion.

They get bent if you hit something. The original design used the covers to stiffen the chassis in beam, but they do wear out.

The factory team chassis brace and updated rear shock tower add enough beam strength to the chassis that you can take a saw to the belt covers of just leave the middle parts of the covers off.

I am not super comfortable leaving the covers off, particularly if you run outdoor.

Those pins are hardened tool steel, they are the most durable part in the whole CVA (IMO). If that part is shot, I shudder to think what the rest of the CVA looks like.

My Hudy setup station is the best thing ever. If you aren't using one, you have no idea how bad of a job you are doing using whatever camber gauge you are using

If I remember correctly we talked about using a setup station pages back. You had one but hadn't used it but you were going to give it a try. Looks like you used it and realized just how far off you used to be when it looked A OK to the naked eye or even a camber gauge.

Not using a proper setup station pretty much guarantees that you are off at least 0.5° on everything.

Enjoy your properly setup truck and how it handles :D

I used an RPM camber gauge previously.

Off by half a degree?:ha:

Yeah, I guess its not plus or minus 0.5°... it's 0.5°+

The new CVA-bones are just 1-2 race-days old and the pins i made out of hardened steel nails broke at the end of the first race-day. The original AE-parts also broke, but just because the bones were that much worn out that there was a sharp edge.

How often do you replace your bones/pins/axles? Maybe the problem is not the CVD but another part of the car :S Too less slippery can't be the problem because i have the V1 slipper.

//EDIT: also the right bone was MUCH more worn out than the left, but the pins broke on both sides.

Running mine since October and they are still in great condition, pin and bone. Odd that people are having issues.

I would think that you have the shock down travel limited, but if not... is the arm traveling too far down allowing the bone to back out almost all the way from the outdrive getting that pin into the sharp edge of the outdrive?

Wait, that's up travel that's limited... never mind.

Yea people were cuttin the tunnel to accommodate for tall Esc's that don't fit underneath it. If you run indoors and have a ft brace you really don't need a tunnel if there is no rocks or anything loose on top. We drive hard pack clay like asphalt almost, so there isn't really anything that could get in there.
Outdoors I would not try this tho.

Cody227 09-26-2012 07:33 AM

Can someone make a pic of a bone he drives since a long time? I used mine since about April 10 2012 :( They broke about 1-2 months ago.

Anyone using an lrp sxx with a 550 4.5? If so, did you have problems?

fq06 09-26-2012 07:49 AM

Can't really get a good pic of the rear but they are in the same condition. I actually recently replaced the outdrives because they were getting a little chewed up, but not the pins. Rear outdrives were worse than the front.

Oh, maybe you got me wrong. I mean the other side of the CVA-Bone, where the hinge of the complete CVA is. (the part where the pin-retainer-clip is located and the bone and the axle come together)

Just pulled the truck apart for a full rebuild and cleaned/lubed the part you are talking about, those pins looked just as good.
But not pulling that apart for another month :D
