Default SLASH Suspension Issues

hey guys ive owned the slash for a little over a month now and really like the truck. the problem that im having is the shocks are just way to soft. most of the issues i believe to have to do wit the battery. im running a duratrax 5000 MAH 7-cell pack and the thing weighs like 2 pounds. i tryed changing the shock oil from 25 wt. to 40 wt. and that didnt seem to do a thing. what should i do

Thunder Ac6 charger from hobbypartz.com $55
2 Turnigy's Lipo's from hobbyking.com ~$65-70
Deans conectors $8

Correct me if i'm wrong but that is probably going to be the cheapest route.

Do you have those shock spacers that came with your truck. They look like black rings. They come on a plastic "tree". Put a couple of those on the upper part of each shock. They will stiffen the springs and strengthen the rear end.

Let us know!

25wt??? That is way too soft for a Slash. You want to go 50wt in rear and 45wt in front. There are also spring kits you can get or you can go with the Pro-Line Powerstroke shocks. Very good shocks.

You really should go lipo. They really have come down in price as have the chargers.

You will need to increase shock weight oil to get the proper dampening in the shocks. You might also want to play around with spring rates too.

Absolutely Lipo!!!

Someone has a great sig on this forum but can't remember who. Says "guns and lipos are only dangerous in the hands of stupid people!" and it's very true.

If treated even somewhat properly, lipos are just as safe as Nimh or anything else. Even more so kind of. I've had 2 packs in my life blow. 1 Nimh and 1 lipo. The lipo caught on fire and destroyed a 1/8 buggy costing me $500 give or take. Flames were put out and only thing injured was my hobby fund.

The nimh while charging exploded like a friggin pipe bomb and sent shards of crap into my drywall 10 feet away.

Even 40wt oil is too light. Get a cheap lipo and charger and save up for some Losi 8ight shocks or Proline powerstroke. If using 8ight get fronts only for all around.

I couldn't agree more with the lipo. I was resistant to trying lipo for a lot of the same reasons, but now that I have some I am kicking myself for not getting them sooner. The performance advantage is pretty big, and if you handle them with a minimum of common sense you will be just fine. Put it this way, you probably already have stuff sitting in your garage that is far more volatile than a lipo battery pack.

stock springs are soft as it is. order stiffer ones at the same time.
and still get the lipos. the performance gain is well worth it.

Get yourself some of these, I run them and they are good not the greatest ones I've ever had but Im keeping up just fine at the track.

http://www.hobbypartz.com/gens.html

And you want to run 60wt in the front and 50wt in the rear or 50/50 thats a good starting point.
You can also use the Traxxas red springs in the rear and the black up front.
