I'm running the sc401 4600kv with the SC8 ESc in a SC10 4x4, 12t pinion, 62t spur. Finding the temps of motor around 150 after 5-7 min heats. the track is loose with many tight turns. have the timing at 0 in ESC.

Are others finding that the motor runs a little hot compared to say a 1410 from Castle? What is a safe temp this motor can run at?

When geared for the same top speed, they are about the same. The guys with 3800's are coming off around 160-170 here as well on the big outdoor track.

You are safe for 200 degrees easy, but I would try to keep it under 180 if possible.

Ck looks as if they only have the 5200kv, I am worried that it will be too much fro my sc10 4x4, any opinions???

Ok guys, I'm new with the slipper thing....can someone point me or describe how to properly set this up on the sc10 4x4? Is there a basic bench test I can do, then take it out on the track to verify?

I have the 4600 in my Sc10 4x4 and wouldn't see the need for more kv. That being said, if you did get the 5200, I suppose you could always just turn down the e.p.a for throttle.

Wouldn't the 5200 run a little hotter than the 4600? Mine runs around 160 after 7 min using 12/62 in the SC10 4x4, and I wouldn't want it any hotter than that. I find the design of the Sc10 4x4 doesn't leave much air movement room around the motor, and I'm even thinking of putting a fan on it.

With the SC8 esc/4600 combo, what esc settings work best for optimum temps/minimal cogging/etc.?

I run that combo in a SC10 4x4 and have the timing at 0. Cogging is normal for a sensorless (only at crawl speed), but it performs great above that.

Mine was a little hot, so I turned the timing to 0, but you will need to play with it yourself to see what you like.
