It's definitely also about making sure the thrust balls can grip the rings, but the bigger gain you'll see in diff performance and life is when both thrust races are flat allowing the balls to roll completely free. The rings shouldn't be rough, you should just be able to see light hatch marks on their faces, no gouges or heavy scratches. Sanding the diff rings is also a very good idea for the same reasons.

I think the losi 22 is what a lot of people are going to start working with. Just this past weekend at the races team darango from germany was here runnin their stuff. The new buggy that is still in the blue prints looks just like the losi. Mid motor and everything. Not to mention the kid won with it too
