hey guys i've been looking at hobby wings escs for a long time now and now i think i have it down to 3 different ones to choose from the xerun blue spirit 60amp v2, xerun 80a v2, or the xerun blue spirit 120a. the problem i have is my slash 4x4 goes through escs like candy 2 vxls...both under a week, mamba max, mamba monster all with the same settings...3s venom 6400mah 30c lipos, 20/54 gearing, stock esc settings, JUST VXL Motor used (dont have any other motor) and they all have fried. I only have the 3s lipo venom also. I race on road and cool down between packs....which of the 3 could solve my problem? theres no binding or problems with the car itself but all the escs i've used die within a couple weeks and to be frank i dont have much cash and cant buy a new esc everytime i wanna drive, WHAT HAPPENED TO QUALITY ELECTRONICS!?!?!?! my xl-5 rusty stay alive for almost 5 years without changing anything but spur gears and tires, what gives?

To start, I would get another motor (borrow one if you have to) to make sure it's not your VXL motor killing your ESCs. There might be a short in the motor, even if it's temporary.
As for which would be best, the 80A will take the most punishment. It's physically much larger than the 60A and 120A Xeruns and really performs more like a 100-120A ESC. Good luck.

thanks man, ill go with the 80 then, those three escs are on ebay within 80-104 dollars. any cheap suitable motor can you reference me 2? im stuck with the vxl until i get out with it agian ...i dont wanna travel 1 1/2 hours to meet my rc buddies to see if the motors doin it, i'd rather have my own. i like speed runs more than torque but use 3s still.

Get the 80 amp 2250 combo then. Its a big motor so you will never have heat issues or anything like that. That set up is made for 8th scale buggy.

Does anyone know if the stock settings on the 150a esc have any drag brake dialed in? I just dropped one in with a Tekin 2000kv truggy motor. It nose dives now hard overe jumps if I dont stay on it a bit. Never did with my RX8. I have the digital programmer but havnt had a chance to hook it up yet. Any recommended settings?

And why in the heck do they sell a combo with a sensorless motor and a sensored esc? Silly.

Sensored esc sensorless motor??? I said the same thing, though the motors seem to be up to par. Is the 150 nearly as smooth as the RX8? I expect your running it in sensored. I have a 80 amp as a back up for my RX8-2050.

Well it not as smooth as the RX8. Kinda punchy on the low end. GOBS of power though. Seemed to really kick the T8 in the behind. I am going to have to tweek settings to tame it down. For some reason the fan on mine runs nonstop from the time you turn it on. And the on/off switch is garbage. Kept turning itself off. Thats an easy fix that I shoulda done right off the bat. Overall I like it. I got a buddy been running one most of the winter without one hiccup. Between us we have 6 failed rx8's though.

The esc has a punch setting and a timing setting. Dial down the punch & set the timing at 0 for the most effecient power. Set it at 7.5 for the smoothest power.

Castle does the same thing with the MMPro combos (sensored ESC, sensorless motor). It's what they have available at the time. I've heard Hobbywing will be releasing sensored motors in the future, but I didn't get any timeframe.

I don't remember what the default drag brake setting is on the ESC. Plug in the programmer to see and you can change the punch and timing then too.

The fan is made to always be on. I prefer this actually...it doesn't drain the battery much, but it keeps the electronics cooler which helps them run more efficiently. If you wait until the electronics reach a high temp to cool them down, then they've already reached a point of lower operating efficiency.

Let me know once you tweak some of the settings how it runs. I know the T8 2050 doesnt like timing advance so i will run 0 timing and a small amount of punh control, not sure maybe 3.

What ever Kershaw has buy it it has quick shipping and decent prices.

Tail Gator get 1 it will be fine, these esc's getting better reviews than all the other 2-3x more $ ones. My RX8 is awesome and hasnt failed, I dont have much time on it though either but I will kick myself in the pants if it breaks with out having a significant amount of runtime on it. I could have bought 2 80 amp Xeruns for the price of the rx8 and been golden. Or a MMp and a xerun, I like to try other stuff as much as I can.the MMp on 4s in buggy will be my next try. The MMp will be the back up to my 80 though if the RX8 poops the bed early.

Go for it, I got my 80 from Kershaw for like $81. And JSR hooked me up with a V2 card for it.
