Default Tekin Vs Castle

So i just recently installed my Tekno RC V3 kit on my Losi 8ight Buggy and am wondering what everyones thoughts are on these two setups below. I origionally was going to go with the:

Castle Creations Mamba Monster 1/8th Scale Brushless Car Package (2200kV)

However i am reading that there is quite a fan base for the

Tekin RX8/Redline T8 1/8th Scale Truggy Brushless ESC/Motor Combo (2250kV)

What are your thoughts ?

IMO before you choose a system, you have to choose a number of cells you plan to run.

In my area, there are 8-9 of us that run tekin stuff. We started on 4S and 1700 - 2100 kv motors.

We are now running 1550kv motors on 5s. The 1550 kv system is incredibly efficient and easily overpowers any track situation when used on 5s.

Power wise both systems will be about the same (running the same voltage) , the Tekin is sensored so it will be smoother on take off , but the Castle's is not bad either and is almost as smooth as the Tekin IMO .

The Tekin takes more soldering to install than the Castle so if you are unsure of your skills then that may be something to consider also .

I am extremely new to the Brushless world so please bare with me =)

Question 1: when changing from 2100 to 1550 did you have to replace the ESC or ...?

Question 2: Couldn't you have ran the 5s with the 2100kv ?

5S at 2250 would be very, very fast... though it might be a handful to control skillfully.

Given enough traction, it'd be awesome, but most off-road tracks don't offer enough traction to make a setup like that work.

when going from any kv motor to a different KV motor the only change you should have to make is the gear ratio to suit the motor you are installing.

Provided the speedo is desigend for 1/8th scale applications they will run almost any kv motor.

You can run a 2100 on 5s but like was stated above, it is very fast and can be dificult to control.

you can limit the epa in the radio to help it be more driveable if you try that route though.

Another route you could go for is MMM esc and a Tekin motor, the 1550 is a truggy motor as is the CC 2200 which is fine unless it dont fit in your car. I want to try a higher cell lower KV set up myself but I already have 2 systems. The 1400KV on 6S 3000-3300mah which would give the same runtime as 1550-1700KV on 4000-4200mah and the same runtime as 1900-2200KV on 4S. Sure the 1900 will give a minute or so more than the 2200. I hear 5S is teh most efficient power usage wise, and anyday 5 and 6S will run much cooler than 4S. In buggy I now that I know more would buy the MMM/esc and Tekin 1900 motor or the new CC 1800 on 4S, or the Tekin 1700 on 5S, or 1400 on 6S. Guys are running the 6S set up in the ve8 and love it, I use the MMM/2200 and like it also.

I forgot all about the MMpro thats what I want to do is the mmpro with a Tekin or Speed passion V2 motor, the guys using the 6S set up are using that ESC and its working well.

You can run a 2100 on 5s but like was stated above, it is very fast and can be difficult .

you have to watch the number of cells you are running as well, otherwise you will have to much heat and damage something, that is the reason people are going from 4s 2200 to 5s 1550 and so on, you get the same amount of power with less heat, with less heat = reliability.

I hear all the time about people making the switch and having issues and break downs because the esc cannot handle the power or they are not strong enough yet, but you need to choose for your application.

Maybe someone else can chime in here but I think these would both be good choices for you.

I Tq'd and won the Open Truggy Class at the recent ROAR Champs running 4s 2000kv Tekin system.

I also do agree that the 5s 1550 setup is REALLY good as well. It will post longer run times and cooler temps.

I agree with the guys " What battery are you planning on running" is the most important question of all.

Followed by a close 2nd "Which Tekin system do you want!?"

Like they have said above first pick the battery then consider the track you will run on the most & pick the motor. I've been running 5S on the 1700 & 1900 motors & 6S on the 1400. On a bigger tracks these combos worked great. Winter is here now & in the winter we go to a smaller indoor track. This week I did not have my 6S pack was pleasently surprised at how well the 1400 ran on 5S at this smaller high bite track. My point is that the track matters alot when selecting a motor but first you need to know what battery. As for the ESC they are both great but Tekin is smoother (I have both),

Also important is ROAR rules, if you're racing ROAR sanctioned then I believe you're held to a 4s maximum.

mind boggling ...

So initially i had planned on running 4s packs due to the ROAR info i was reading up on. However because i am new to this i do not know what the best combination is or what i should be looking at. What i do not want to do is spend 300 on a ESC / Battery and then find out i need to throw it out the window =)

The two tracks around me that are open year round are pretty tight tracks without long stretches to open up. There is one that is seasonal that is pretty large. I know its a long shot but i would like to have a setup were i could enjoy both places =)

Does that help any?

If you go 4S, get the 1900. Smooth power, good run time and enough speed on any straights the tracks might have. I run the 2050, but I like my setup to be a little more snappy than some.

Jeremy Potter won the expert open class at the 1/8 champs with the 1900! We are almost neck and neck down the straight, my Losi 2.0 2050 and his HB Ve8 1900, both on 4S.
