any particular reason for the lower voltage? smaller battery to fit under the body?

rcjunky1 12-06-2009 11:48 AM

This whole mid motor thing has me intregued. What parts need to be modified? I may get a new EA3 chassis soon so I wouldn't mind modifing that, what more do most people do? How many hours would it take? could I do a conversion in 2 weeks?

mopar1994 12-06-2009 12:19 PM

rammstein88- i just dont have too much money to spend on batteries, so im trying to find the cheapest ones.

rcjunky- im sure you could do it in 2 weeks. the whole back of the chassis needs a lot of dremel work, like cutting off the thing that holds the battery in the back. and you will need to drill new holes in the t-plate, and then come up with some kind of a brace that bolts to the transmission and a brace to stop the sideways flex.

YoungChazz 12-06-2009 01:33 PM

RCJunky, if you had a B4 and an X - 6 Squared Conversion Kit, you could do it in 2 - 3 hours. Same with a T4 and an X - 60. Wouldn't have to Dremel anything. All proven parts with set-up and tech help too.

rcjunky1 12-07-2009 03:54 AM

I don't have funds for a B4, let along the conversion. Could someone post pics on what they did to there chassis? I took my buggy apart yesterday and where the motor would go looked like it would take off the mounts for the t plate, would that need to be glued on or is there another way to mount it? Could anyone make a complete build thread?

rcjunky1 12-07-2009 04:19 AM

and does the tranny just get flipped around or does it also get raised for motor clearance?

Charles, you and paul are really nice folks . But in this economy not all of us have 400.00 that we can dump on a B4 and conversion kit. Besides, I dont support associated since the TT buyout and one of their customer service reps told me that "we dont make parts for the space shuttle" when I purchased a T4 kit that had an oversize O.D. pilot shaft on the diff half, and the front shock bores were not smooth in the shock body.To get an answer like that after 20 years of AE loyalty was unacceptable. So, I now avoid AE stuff wherever, and whenever possible.:sneaky:

2wdmod, I'm sorry to hear your entire post, the first part and the second. I can't speak to your experience with the "new" TT AE, except to say that we are out there beating them. Which brings me to the first half of your post.

Yes, X-Cars are expensive, and we wish it were not so. They are the highest quality you will find in the R/C business, and we are a small manufacturer without the economies of size -- a double whammy on price.

Notice that the owner of the company is actually here talking to you. Our small size drives our manufacturing costs up, but there are advantages for the Family. One is personal service -- X Factory does not have customers, we have a Family.

Another is Engineering Without Fear. While sales are important, winning races is the only thing we really care about, and we are determined to bring you the absolute fastest car on the track, and the easiest car to drive fast at the same time. That's difficult and expensive, two thing corporate boards usually shun.

When you win, we sell more cars.

Not to hi-jack this interesting thread. It's great to see guys going through the same struggles we did and coming up with new or different solutions to the same problems. We read this thread with great interest.

Charles, Like I said you and Paul are some of the nicest guys around. I have met you personally a few times, and LOVE your announcing style. ("and he goes through the fruit loop, over the doubles , and around the fingers of death" Litchfeild May 09') I have raced with you (stock truck quals battlefront RC, sept, 09') And, yes you guys are making a top notch buggy and truck for sure.If I was still running AE stuff It would get converted for sure. And at that point the investment to do so wouldnt be that bad. But for me ,and others like me, who are running different brand cars the investment to change over would be enormous. For me right now to switch to a fleet of x-cars(of course I would build my own SCT) would cost around 1200- 1500 dollars to cover the 3 classes I like to run (buggy, truck ,and SCT) by the time I switched over the cars and my stock of wheels/tires.Well I decided I dont have much cash to play with , but I have plenty of time to work on my MM cars to perfect the designs to the point that I am happy with them.So far the going has been pretty smooth. But like I pointed out in another thread That's because of a ton of research. Alot of that research coming from the X-factory forums and discussion threads all over the net.

I love the fact that Paul and yourself stop into this thread. Since you guys have "been there, Done that" with most of the problems that we( we that have chosen to make our own) are encountering it gives a great reference point to see how others have solved the same/ similar problem.More heads are always better than one when it comes to problem solving.

I personally couldnt be happier with the results I am getting from my buggy. And just last week a MM truck was tested using the same conversion design I used for the buggy and the results were just as positive. We ended up with a very stable , very predictable handling truck.Even beating a couple X-60's in the main:nod:.

I would just like to thank Paul and yourself for the hours you put in on your designs. There is a great level of commitment there and it shows. It gives me something to shoot for with my designs.

For small peices Hobbyking.com has some good CF in pre-cut sizes . Sizes are either 100mmx200mm or 100mmx300mm . The thicknesses they carry are 1.0mm,1.5mm,2.0mm, and 2.5mm. Prices are pretty reasonable. Around 20.00 a panel depending on thickness.
