8ight conversion
I am getting ready to convert a losi 8ight over to electric. And have a few questions.
1. What is the best conversion kit.
2. What is the best and most reliable motor ESC combo.
3. Can u use the new 18.5 v 5c lipo losi battery for this.

I've seen people say 4s is best and some say 5s. It's a matter of what you want. I'm running the MMM/2200kv on 5s and love it. Runs cool, very efficent, long run times and yes it's really fast but that's what the finger is for. It's nice to know you have the power on tap even if you don't need it. The look on the glow racers faces when you overshoot a tripple into the other lane in it's self is woth going to 5s. Run what is going to make YOU happy.

With a motor and battery combination you want to shoot for 30-35,000 rpms (volts * Kv = rpm). As most nitros run in that same rpm range. Above that target range can lead to excessive heat and lower durability. Yes, you can have the extra speed on tap but it will take its toll on your buggy/truggy. Also just because the higher end motors are rated up 60,000 rpm it is not good to push them to their limit.

Long run time as in how long? You dont think this setup is overpowered? Thats 40k rpm. So many people in other threads are telling me to use a 1700kv on 5S. Im so confused. I want the extra power on tap.

I don't have any heat issues at all. The only part I have broken so far is the rear wing mount. I need to ease up on the jumps.
This has been debated on several threads. Is it too much? Yea probally. Would I be happy with less? I don't think so. I do agree that a 1700-1800 kv motor would do great on 5s. I also think this power system can take 5s with no sweat. It's really up to the user in what they want out of their buggy.

I can get just over 20min on a 5s 4000. Yes it is overpowered. On a fast track it's outstanding. On a tight track it takes alot of throttle management.

Depends on gearing, track layout, driving style but I would think you would get longer runtimes.

It sounds like you havent driven one of these things yet if you think you will need more power.
The right choice for a durable long lasting, good runtime setup on 5s is the 1700kv motor IMO.

Thankx dude.
OK, Heres my list
Losi 8
Losi Conversion Kit
MMM V3
Neu 1512 1.5Y (1850KV) OR Tekno Neu 1512 2.5D (2050KV)
Battery? Maybe Zippy 5S 5000 I want 20 min run times as long as the weight doesnt interfere.
ABout all I need I think.
Last minute suggestions about my motor/battery or other?
What size pinion/gearing to use.
I calculated that the 1850 on 15/45 is very close to the 2050 on 140/45. Both being around 46MPH. Probably too fast. I originally wanted the 2.5 but I heard its more power hungry and to just get the 1.5Y
I plan on I guess getting a cheap battery at first if thats a good size one and seeing how it goes then I will get a Neuenergy or a better battery after I see more what I need. The zippys are heavy.
I already got servos and receiver and charger
Will the new smart diffs fit in the 8 1.0 buggy?
And what brand of pinion? Im shopping at amain.
