That was my thought is that the housing is not true. I am going to order the optional Heavy Duty differential housing that has the metal metal inserts LOSB3528

Sounds like a plan. Also DE Racing makes some lightweight inserts that I want to try. I bought some a while ago just have not put them in yet.

Mine did the same thing. Finally figured out I had to remove one shim from behind the outdrive. It had 2 from the factory, which is what the instructions call for but it would bind up when I tightened the screws. It does leak some however.

Thats strange I just checked, mine only has one shim not two. are you talking about the shim that goes under the pin that holds the outdrive cup in place ? thats weird my manual says X2 on that shim also but there is only one

Yes I am. Well then I guess your problem is different than what mine was doing. Sorry I couldn't help. Might be the case.

Have a look at Adam Drake building a diff:
+ YouTube Video
ERROR: If you can see this, then YouTube is down or you don't have Flash installed.

at 1:50 he suggests not to use the shims, only if your diff is leaking.

Hi guys
Can anyone give me some advise on fitting a pinion gear?
My pinion keeps coming off.
In the manual it doesn't say that you have to use thread lock, but I have tried it and it still comes off.
Could it be that my gear mesh is not right?
Thanks in advance for your input.

Ive had mine come off. make sure you crank it down as tight as you can get it and let the lock tight cure before use.

Just got some lightweight out drives do they make any difference and how strong are they?

Make sure the setscrew is lined up with the flat spot on the motor shaft. I have never had to use thread lock on a pinion gear just make sure to really "crank down the screw"

metal on metal I always use blue locktight. I think the book shows to do that also when building the kit.

The manual doesn't mention locktight on the grub screw, but it seemed obvious to me that it should have. Anyway, i'll try really cranking it down, I think that might be my problem along with not waiting for the thread lock to dry. Thanks guys...
